With over a decade of higher education completed, I have come to the conclusion that learning never gets old, but it does get easier.
I started my journey at a trade school learning Industrial Systems. From there, I realized that many of the classes I’d taken were part of other degrees and diplomas. After wrapping up Industrial Systems, I went on to complete Electrical Controls, Industrial Electrical, and Engineering Technology. In 2021, I decided to go after a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering Technology. While I have devoted countless hours to education, I firmly believe that each hour is a true investment in myself.
I say all of this to offer some key takeaways from my educational experiences.
If you’re contemplating going back to college, go.
If you’re wondering whether you’re to old to start, you aren’t.
The hardest part is the first step. After that, it’s all down hill.
Learn about something you’re interested in, it makes it easier.
Knowledge is power. The more knowledgeable you are, the more power you have over your career. Knowledge makes you more valuable on the market and more likely to land a job you enjoy.
My last, and possibly the most important takeaway, is this: learn to apply the knowledge you have. Not knowing how to apply it is worse than not having it.
