It was a privilege to kick off today's The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Polsky Center at the University of Chicago Private Equity conference. Today's event is the largest in school history with over 500 attendees from around the world, ranging from MBA students interested in the industry to seasoned executives and investors. The lunchtime keynote was a fascinating discussion between Polsky's Faculty Director Professor Steven Kaplan and KKR Co-Head of Global Private Equity Peter Stavros. Some insights from that discussion include: - KKR is increasingly using ESOP mechanisms to ensure the incentive (and upside) structure of deals extends within their portfolio to a wider segment of employees...this also helps build wealth for line workers. There is a 10x multiplier on value creation in giving employees equity. - When investing, Pete focused on how KKR has learned to continually deploy capital rather than taking vintage risk or trying to time the market. - Leadership truly matters, and KKR searches for empathetic CEOs who make it a personal mission to understand the needs of their employees - Pete's philosophy is to "get results in the right way" and encouraged everyone to focus on changing the 40% "quit rate" for most employees in the US - There were predictions that more models will be created to open up alternative asset classes like private equity to individual investors (versus only institutions or very high net worth individuals) Great job by the student leadership and my team in the Polsky Center in arranging a productive conference!

Last month, several AUM College of Business students had the opportunity to attend Quinnipiac’s Global Asset Management Education Forum in New York City, where some of the world's sharpest business minds gather to share insights on finance, business and portfolio management. "We had the opportunity to meet and witness CEOs, CFOs and CTOs from some of the worlds largest wealth managing companies such as T. Rowe Price, J.P Morgan Asset Management, etc., talk about the economy, inflation and how us students need to be prepared for the future," said Ajay Sadhanala, a management information systems graduate student. "It felt like a dream come true being able to see such amazing individuals talk with such passion and humility." Sadhanala said he particularly valued the opportunity to meet Tradier Inc. Senior VP Kevin "Lex" Luthringshausen. "When I asked Mr. Lex 'What are some things that one has to keep in mind while investing in options as a beginner trader,' I was taken a step back when he answered my question by going into details and spending almost 10 minutes explaining how he started and all he has done all along to get where he is now," he said. "It was a great learning experience for me. I not only got to learn the knowledge from him but also how important it is to stay humble no matter what role a person is in. At that moment I thought to myself that all of this is possible because I'm a student here at AUM." Students in the MHS Investment Club recently placed 10th out of 130 schools that competed in The Stock Market Game, an online simulation of global capital markets. The club learned from leaders at Hershey Trust Company, gaining an understanding of the stock market and the power of investing. As someone who has worked for a few Private Equity Sponsored companies, I was interested in taking this certificate program offered jointly by Wharton School of Business / Wall Street Prep. Having a goal of becoming a CFO and typically preferring privately-held companies in the Middle-to-Lower-Middle Market space, I thought it would be a great opportunity to see how the Sponsors approach a deal from Entry to Exit. This 360-degree view allows me to think about things from both sides of the fence, align future reporting, and strategically communicate better with Sponsors, Boards, and Lenders knowing everyone’s objectives. I could not be happier with how this program was run. The amount of information you learn will far outweigh the cost to join a Cohort. I can confidently say it has reshaped the way I think about Finance and Business in an immense way. I hope to explore more of these in the future. If you are looking for something in PE, IB, or work in Corp Finance for companies that are privately held, I could not recommend this program more than I do. #privateequity #whartononline #WallStreetPrep #finance

I'm excited to share that I've recently completed the Business Analysis and Valuation summer course at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), finishing with an A-! ✅ This intermediate level course was a fantastic mix of academic learning and exploring London, and it was an incredible experience to study with top-notch professors like Stefano Cascino, Jeroen Koenraadt and Xiaoke Ye (叶潇客), PhD, FHEA . The course was split into two main parts: 1. Fundamental Analysis: We focused on understanding competitive strategies, efficient market theory, and how to spot earnings management. We also learned how to analyze financial ratios to assess a company's past and current performance. 2. Forecasting and Valuation: We explored different valuation methods like DCF, DDM, Residual Income, as well as relative valuation models, and learned how to use them in various situations. We also covered important topics like IPOs, M&A, and Private Equity. I'm grateful for everything I learned and can't wait to put these new skills to use in my future career!

Can't believe it's been a few months since I started studying abroad. With so many student associations around, time has really flown by. I'm excited to share a few thoughts about one of my favorites: B&R Beurs Erasmus Investment Society. Within this association, I've learned so much about corporate finance and trading through in-house days at Van Lanschot Kempen and Optiver. At the former, I even faced my first team case study - an incredible blend of challenge and amazement. The experience was made even more invaluable by the feedback and insightful conversations, for which I'd like to give a special thanks to Jeremy Kincaid and Véronique Meertens. Then there's Plutus Investments, the cherry on top of my B&R Beurs experience. Analyzing weekly stock pitches and managing a joint portfolio has not only allowed me to practice my knowledge, but has also sparked great group discussions, bringing theoretical concepts to life. A key takeaway: compounding isn't only about investments, it works just as well with knowledge. As James Clear puts it, "if you can get just 1% better every day, you'll end up with results that are nearly 37 times better after one year."

What another tremendous experience at Wharton Executive Education. In the Corporate Valuation Program, we took a deep dive into topics including but not limited to cost of capital, capital structures, DCF and APV valuation, M&A, and LBOs. Thank you to my peers, professors, and the Exec Ed team for making the experience so meaningful. Oh… and if you’re an industry executive considering a move to continue your business education, the seamless accessibility to cheese steaks should not be overlooked.
