During the 1940s and 1950s, Clinton Duffy worked as a prison warden. He worked hard to rehabilitate the men in prison. As his efforts became more well-known, a critic said, "You should know that leopards don't change their spots!" Warden Duffy wisely responded, "You should know I don't work with leopards. I work with men, and men change every day." I heard this simple story over a decade ago for the first time, and it has stuck with me ever since. The best part is we can choose who we want to become. To do this we need to "connect" to our future selves. Here are my favorite ways to connect with and stay connected to our future selves: 1. Create a Vision Board 2. Journal about who you want to become 3. Leave doubters out of your life Hope you all have a great day and feel an increase of hope for your ability to become your best self. #Success #Journaling #Wellness

While most Americans will be enjoying 4th of July festivities tomorrow, it is important to remember that many veterans who protected the very freedoms we are celebrating may be negatively impacted by fireworks in their communities. Fireworks can be a trigger or trauma reminder for veterans who served in combat or have had traumatic experiences with fire, explosions, or gun violence. If you are a veteran living with PTSD or other conditions that make fireworks difficult to endure, check out this article from the VA to learn tips for managing symptoms and identifying trauma cues. If you are planning to host a 4th of July gathering, this article also includes tips for creating an event space that is sensitive to those who are affected by fireworks. My article on Child Soldiering where I have highlighted how vulnerable children are recruited from their communities and forced into war and violence. This is a story of lost childhood and the psychological affects it has on children. A critical comment raised here is that most Americans think the VA and DOD are on top of and solving the suicide crisis. They are not. Because it’s a national problem, not a DC one. That’s not simply for a lack of effort. Most vets don’t use the VA. This is not the main effort of DOD, warfighting is and many don’t make time for mental health care as part of winning wars. So how can those organizations do it alone? That is why citizen-led efforts are so critical to reversing the suicide crisis. But they need funding. Dozens of small and effective nonprofits across our nation are saving lives but to be honest, they suck at fundraising because it’s a hard topic to fundraise for. So how do we get all (ALL) the organizations that need funding connected to donors??? Thanks Jack Tilley VADM (ret) John Bird and Reach Resilience, an Endeavors Foundation for pushing this conversation forward. Our band Over, Never Out stands committed to getting funding to those groups that are saving lives and hope our song can help our military community. Reflecting on the importance of accountability for war atrocities and the need for conversations on this topic. As a laborer in JFK, I have witnessed the devastating impact of these actions on citizens. It is crucial that we proffer accountability, prosecutions, and responsibility. Personally, I am grateful that my immediate family did not experience any losses, but many Liberian families have endured unimaginable pain. We cannot simply let bygones be bygones, as we must speak up for those who cannot. Let us remember that we cannot dictate the opinions of those who have lost their lives. #Accountability #WarAtrocities #JusticeForAll #LiberiaStrong

WHY we do what we do: From MOVS Momma Joy Kubat and her family: PLEASE Share xoxoxo “The insurmountable devastation caused by the passing of our beloved Wesley has shaken the foundation of every aspect of life as we have known it. Although time may help heal, the grief we share with many has only become tolerable over time. However, we must proceed, and as we proceed, and try to process the grief, we have been drawn to be the warriors Wesley once was. We take the grief as a driving force to support the families who suffer the same loss of their soldier, and to bring awareness and resources to stop soldier suicide. After years struggling with PTSD after combat as many soldiers do, we will never know the emotional struggles these soldiers bring home with them after war. They have been heavily conditioned to suppress their experiences during combat and build an emotional wall around it. When these soldiers come home from war, they have little support to transition them back to what their lives once were. Can you imagine!?? This is what must change. We don’t have the answers, but we hope that we can somehow make an impact in this mission we share with many other military families. Please share our story that so many families have also had to endure, and help build awareness of soldier suicide. If you know a soldier, please reach out. They may need you more than you realize and more than they will share.” #military #movs #veterans #askforhelp #suicideiscomplicated #someoneyouknow #suicideloss #suicidelosssurvivor #suicidelosssurvivors #suicideawareness #suicideprevention #suicidelosssupport #suicidebereavement #nationalsuicidepreventionawarenessmonth #suicidegrief #survivorofsuicideloss #survivorsofsuicideloss #griefsupport #grievingaftersuicide #griefandloss #griefjourney #complicatedgrief #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #youmatter #endmentalhealthstigma #youareneveralone #healingafterloss #lifeafterloss #youarenotalone #postventionisprevention #hopeaftersuicide #kindnessmatters https://lnkd.in/ggGBTkQK
