Stroud Sewerage Strategy Project: £22 million project to reduce sewer flooding and improve the health of the River Frome. The Stroud Sewerage Strategy is a major investment by Severn Trent which is required to overhaul of the existing sewer network by installing almost 3.5km of enlarged sewer pipe, separating surface water from the sewage network, creating additional storage with smart controls to hold stormwater back during large storm events before returning it to the treatment works when the rainfall has subsided, and making improvements to Stanley Downton STW. This paper follows on from the case study published in Water Projects 2022, which focussed on the design and optioneering elements of the programme of works. The Stroud Sewerage Strategy is made up of five key elements: (1) trunk sewer improvements (2) combined sewer overflow & storage (3) surface water separation (4) infiltration reduction and (5) Stanley Downton WwTW. Construction started in March 2022 and details of the progress to date is covered in this paper. Project Update: Progress on Our Somerset Project 🚧 We've made significant strides on our Client’s project Minors Arms, down in Somerset, here’s a bit of an update on what’s been happening; Over the past week or so, the team has been busy advancing to the next stages of construction.. 🌧️ Drainage Installation The installation of crucial drainage components is well underway. Gully Pots Installation: Efficient Water Collection: Gully pots are being installed to ensure effective water drainage from the road surface. Preventing Flooding: These components will help manage runoff and prevent water accumulation on the road. Swale Construction: Natural Drainage Solution: The team are creating swales to facilitate natural water management, reducing the risk of erosion and managing surface water. Enhancing Landscape: Swales also contribute to the overall environmental sustainability of the project. Headwall Installation: Structural Support: Headwalls are being installed at the ends of drainage pipes to provide stability and prevent erosion. Maintaining Flow: They ensure proper water flow and protect the drainage infrastructure. Manhole Installation: Access Points: Manholes are being placed to provide access for maintenance and inspection of the drainage system. Ensuring Functionality: These structures are critical for the long-term effectiveness of our drainage system. 🔨 Kerbing and Excavation Kerb Installation: Defining Edges: We’re installing kerbs to define the edges of the road and ensure proper alignment. Foundation Preparation: Pins are being set to secure the kerbs in place, readying the area for the final road surface. Pond Excavation: Stormwater Management: Excavation for a pond is in progress, which will aid in managing stormwater runoff and contribute to site drainage. Environmental Consideration: The pond will also play a role in local biodiversity, providing a habitat for various species. Pin Installation for Kerbs: Precision Work: Pins are being meticulously installed to ensure accurate placement of kerbs, aligning with the road design. 🕑 With these stages in place, the next steps will include: 📍 Completing the kerb installation. 📍Finalising the Type 1 sub-base layer. 📍Preparing for the tarmac laying. Entracon Civil is currently working on the Landscape and Boardwalk project @ Minta Estate in Berwick. We have completed multiple projects in this estate as part of the Stormwater Management Plan from 2021 to 2023 which includes Wetland 3, Wetland 4, Minta Farm Embankment works and the East West Channel. One concrete truck, every 15 minutes for 10 hours! 👷Here’s some ‘concrete’ evidence that there’s no rest for our Central Interceptor team as they crack back into the hard slog after the summer break with a massive concrete pour. While Hiwa-i-te-Rangi, our Tunnel Boring Machine is busy making the journey towards central Auckland (she’s currently just beyond Walmsley Park, Mt Roskill), we have a whole other team working on our northern Central Interceptor sites, crafting a solid base slab at the Western Springs shaft in preparation for Hiwa-i-te-Rangi’s arrival at this location later in the year. 🚧 The Central Interceptor tunnel will connect to two local sewers at Western Springs, taking combined stormwater and wastewater flows to Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant for processing.
