Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore’s Post

Waterfront Partnership sets sail! We were thrilled to spend some time out on the water earlier this summer with our incredible Waterfront Partnership board members. It is always a special experience to see our city from the water, including all of the programs, projects, and fruits of our labor that are made possible through the support of our board. Thank you to our board members for joining us on board! And thanks to Living Classrooms Foundation for taking us out.

Baltimore has historically been a leader in revitalizing its post-industrial waterfront, with hundreds of cities from Rotterdam to Sydney taking inspiration from Inner Harbor's critical mass of attractions and activations that enhance its public spaces. With Baltimore experiencing a new renaissance on the waterfront, planners worldwide are looking to our city for insights on how to revitalize their own waterfronts. The Waterfront Partnership was thrilled to host a delegation of urban planners and city officials visiting with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York, representing cities all across South Korea, from the 111 inhabited islands of Shinan County to the port city of Donghae, and of course, from the capital Seoul and the many surrounding cities in the metropolitan area. Among a whirlwind of water events, including the Maryland Strong Floatilla, Harbor Splash, and Katie Pumphrey's Bay to Baltimore swim, it's an honor to have the Blueway nationally recognized as a focal point of beauty and recreation! The Blueway's network of 8 water trails and public access points for non-motorized craft connects cultural, historic, and natural sites throughout the Baltimore waterfront. Over 60 historical landmarks can be seen within a 3-mile radius, offering a brand new view of Baltimore! Enjoy sign-making and tunes with giveaways and samples from Ekiben and Peabody Heights (limited). And don’t miss her photo finish with private boat escort from Mr. Trash Wheel into the Inner Harbor. Date: Tuesday, June 25th Time: 2-6PM (Katie’s estimated arrival time is 3-5PM) Location: Inner Harbor Amphitheater This swim brings together some of Baltimore’s best, with local businesses sponsoring Katie’s journey and city leaders lending support. Waterfront Partnership is proud to announce this milestone, which comes after years of hard work cleaning up the harbor, community outreach and engagement, and our first ever Harbor Splash public swim event this past weekend.  

https://lnkd.in/duB4BNzv This past Sunday, we were able to accomplish a feat that many thought was impossible, as 150 Baltimoreans enthusiastically jumped into the Baltimore harbor with us. Our first ever Harbor Splash event celebrated over a decade of work cleaning up the harbor; invaluable collaboration between our government, business leaders, non profits, and residents; and above all, passion and dedication to our goal of achieving a swimmable harbor. As our Vice President Adam Lindquist said the morning of the splash, “There is still work to be done, and I don’t expect everyone to change their mind overnight, but today, I urge us all to reconsider our relationship with the Baltimore harbor and acknowledge that things have changed."
