From an article written from Colonel of Oklahoma State Patrol. Command Presence and Why it Matters Command presence is a personal demeanor that is manifested through physical presence, appearance and posture, alertness, awareness of surroundings, quality of communication and general confidence and in law enforcement, command presence matters more than just about anything. Your command presence can determine whether an encounter with a resistive person escalates or de-escalates. It can convey to subjects, victims and onlookers whether you are in control of a situation, which in turn affects the way they react to you. Take pride in yourself—looking the part is a meaningful part of the equation. if you look sharp, people will assume you are sharp. Moving beyond appearance: build and show confidence by developing knowledge and mastering the requirements of the job: Effective communitcation Statutory Law and staying updated when it changes usually subsequent to a legislative session. Case Law knowing when it changes and what has changed, it can change daily. Policy and procedures Develop physical skills through regular training and a strong body; physical fitness is a key building block of mental toughness (they actually go hand-in-hand). Take your character, credibility and reputation seriously, and be a good example for others to follow. Perception is reality. It’s important that the first impression you make is positive and professional, and appropriately strong. A well-presented officer who looks the part, is fit, alert and competent, can often gain control over people and situations without the need for escalation of any kind. Without knowing anything about the agency or the people, which group from the pictures below appear to fit the description in this post? Note: I found the contents of this post from several articles I’ve researched over the past year and inserted verbiage regarding stay abreast on changing environment of policing.

Thanks, Cyan Blackwell, for speaking out on the critical issue of discretionary bindover in response to the Cleveland.com series “Delinquent: Our System, Our Kids," brought to you by all of us in the Greater Cleveland Youth Justice Collaborative We urge judges to limit the use of discretionary bindover and allow our kids to learn from their mistakes and grow. Let's advocate for a justice system prioritizing rehabilitation and positive development for our youth. Watch the entire series here: https://bit.ly/4bwQX1M
This week, the Greater Cleveland Youth Justice Collective, made up of Children's Law Center, ACLU of Ohio, and the Schubert Center for Child Studies, issued a third response to the cleveland.com series “Delinquent”. This past week, CLC's Youth Justice Policy Associate Cyan Blackwell covered discretionary bindover – the process that gives judges the option to transfer a child as young as 14 to the adult system. We invite the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, Michael C. O'Malley and Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court to engage with this series and listen to the voices of our youth.

Celebrating National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 👮♂️🚔🎖️ On this National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we pause to sincerely thank the courageous men and women serving in law enforcement. This day is all about recognizing and appreciating their relentless dedication and the numerous sacrifices they make. I want to extend a heartfelt acknowledgement to the various departments and individuals nationwide with whom I've had the privilege of working or supporting in their educational endeavors, or those who have offered kindness and understanding during challenging times. How Can We Show Our Appreciation? Send a Thank You Letter or Card: A simple gesture like a heartfelt letter or a card to your local police department can mean a lot. It's a personal way to show your gratitude for their hard work and dedication. Share Positive Experiences: If you've had a positive encounter with law enforcement, share your story on social media. These stories help highlight the good work being done and foster a positive community spirit. Abide by the Law: One of the best ways to show respect and appreciation for law enforcement is by following the law. It's a sign of respect for the rules they work so hard to enforce. Additionally, on a larger scale, state and federal entities are conducting honorary ceremonies and award distributions. These events recognize the outstanding service and bravery exhibited by police officers and rangers. These recognitions serve not only as a token of gratitude but also as a reminder of the crucial role they play in our society. Let's all take a moment today to reflect on the importance of law enforcement in our lives and extend our heartfelt gratitude for their service. Respectfully, Dr. Bailey 🌟 #NationalLawEnforcementAppreciationDay #ThankACop #FraternalOrderOfPolice #NationalSheriffsAssociation #CommunitySupport #RespectAndHonor 🌟
