"Knowing is a process, not a product"
~Jerome Bruner(1915-2016)
In The Process of Education (1960), Bruner presented this idea that the children should be active participants in the process of education.
I have been working on a program & I have begun to start learning some knowledge imparting strategies so as to get better at what I do.
James Bruner suggested Spiral curriculum where ~
Step 1. Ideas are first presented to learners in a very simple and intuitive way.
Step 2. They are continuously revised, revisited and relearned by applying them in simple ways
Step 3. Consequently, ideas are seen in connection with other subjects and knowledge for mastery.
The quote made me to think, that most of the learning that we do is when we are applying them practically within our organisations or work. This is where, we might not remember what contributed to the ideas in first place, because lot of the times we are in Step 3, we are making connection to Step 1 or Step 2.
First two steps, are something that are taught to us in schools, colleges, parents, colleagues, mentors, friends & peers . Sometimes, which we fail to entirely acknowledge.
Though a correct full curriculum and better way of teaching would comprise of all steps but let's take a pause today, as it is Teacher's Day, and acknowledge and revisit all the things that we have learnt, that brought us where we are today.
Happy Teachers Day to everyone who was a part in my learning process!
