It is with great pleasure that I like to announce that together with my co-mentor, the incredible Nouhaila I. (a.k.a. Super Woman of QML, and the Quantum Queen), the teams that we have co-mentored for QIntern2023 were placed 1st for both judging categories of Best Project and Best Presentation! 🏆 🏆 Co-mentors and co-first place, seems like a tongue-twisting paradox 😂, but it's a (quantum) reality 😎😎. Our first team consisted of the Project 10 cohort that comprised: Abdullah Al Omar Galib, Shivang Arora, Tamojit Ghosh, Yasemin Poyraz Koçak, Owais Ishtiaq Siddiqui, and Dominic Paragas. The team worked on the topic: "Quantum State Tomography Using Quantum Machine Learning", and resulted in the preprint, which was submitted to a prominent journal: https://lnkd.in/dUA8zYsn. For the second project, the Project 12 cohort, we had the additional mentorship assistance of Prof. Ioannis Theodonis. The team was split into two groups: (1) The first group worked on "Financial Fraud Detection Using Quantum Graph Neural Networks", and consisted of the interns: Abhishek Sawaika, Ashim Dhor, Siddhant Dutta, sairupa thota, Husayn Gokal, and Nandan Patel (paper to follow soon). (2) The second group worked on: "Financial Fraud Detection Using Quantum Autoencoders", and consisted of the interns: Ashim Dhor, Rohan Sharma, Jerome Petit, EMBA, and Sreyas Saminathan. (paper to follow soon). Admittedly when the project began, I had a "surface-level" understanding of these topics, and as the projects progressed I had the opportunity to learn from the interns incredible efforts, and meticulous strides. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the QIntern2023 organisers, my co-mentors, and the interns for such an incredible summer experience. Tomato trucks and neuroscience I am used to a bit of fast paced life and when I landed in Davis and saw all the trailer trucks carrying tomatoes, I wondered about my adjustment. Today, I felt immense gratitude for being in this wonderful city. Among the many things - the farmers market, for example, where I find new amazing things every week; the art, the music, the friendly people - the learning here is totally mind blowing. I was at the Neurofest conference today and not just what they sessions had, but the exhibits, integrating art (of brain images!), activities and how it was all laid out was so enriching. We learn and interact with the world through our brain, but we don't quite understand it too well. In the era of AI, neuroscience is very important to know how the human intelligence is built and works. Amazing research work, explained in the most beautiful simple way for the public. It was fascinating to have lots of older people in the audience who asked very thoughtful questions. While the neuro research data showed many brain functions fall off with age, the evidence in the room pointed otherwise! https://lnkd.in/gkX7AEkq

I would like to share a YouTube video by Tianshu Wen from University of Notre Dame, who was one of our awesome #summer #interns in 2023 at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He worked on reduced order modeling for parameterized PDEs via implicit neural representations, in short, INR-ROM. Please check it out: https://lnkd.in/gsQkdeYt INR-ROM first compress high-dimensional data into reduced latent space. Then the latent space dynamics are modeled by parameterized neural ODE through hyper network. In order to reduce the number of parameters through hyper-network, we impose singular value decomposition-like form of weight matrices and only the singular value diagonal matrices are connected to hyper-network. Then the solution of the neural ODEs are decompressed via implicit neural representation (INR). Furthermore, we do fine-tuning of the pre-trained INR by minimizing physics-informed loss, which further improve the overall accuracy of the model. Pretty cool stuff, so make sure you check it out.
