We’ve issued our submission ahead of the #ScottishBudget on 19 December. Trucks, coaches and vans are critical to the supply chain and economic growth, but they face significant pressure from cost increases including wages, fuel, and energy; and shortages of drivers, technicians, vehicles, and parts. We’re asking the following from the Scottish Government: Honour existing commitments on critical infrastructure and increase investment to develop the strategic road network, including ferry routes. Rationalise HGV speed limits to match the rest of the UK. Support reform of the Apprenticeship Levy to provide greater flexibility for skills training. Reduce the disparity in skills funding with England, and therefore the competitive disadvantage Scottish hauliers face when recruiting and planning for the future. Reform planning to support the creation of safe and secure lorry and coach parking facilities in Scotland. The article in The Times at the weekend, really resonated. Developing your in-house pipeline of skills, knowledge and talent... Is as relevant to YOUR BUSINESS as it is to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford. And whilst we may not be able to invest in a full-blown Academy set-up - we can replicate many aspects of what Nick Cox has built at the club and will continue to improve with the new ownership. If it isn't on your horizon yet... don't leave it too late. It takes TIME more than money, to develop a continuous pipeline. Connect with schools, colleges and local training organisations. Make your business known. Develop a solid training plan and method. Buddy up apprentices with your top team players (who may have retirement on their horizon). Get started. You may be needing a graduate to the First Team sooner than you realised!
