The toughest aspect about sustainability and the energy transition is shifting the thinking paradigm. It's an honor and a thrill to discuss this at sustainability conferences or in #energytransition dialogues. During APIA’s “Sustainable Mobility Forum,” I shared insights on our current and future investments in low and zero-carbon solutions. At OMV Petrom, we don't just talk - we act. EV charging points, biofuels, green hydrogen and CNG are all underway, requiring a shift in thinking. We strive to change the paradigm every day.

Heavy industry sectors are difficult to decarbonize due to a lack of technology and investment. However, new energy sources, such as hydrogen and biofuels, and the expansion of low-carbon technologies have great potential in helping these sectors reduce carbon emissions. At ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference 2023, BCG's Shelly Kanhai Trench is discussing with Håkan Agnevall, President and CEO at Wärtsilä, decarbonization in heavy industry sectors and how cross-sector partnerships are vital to finding lower-carbon solutions they can use to tackle this issue. Antonio Pietri, President and CEO of Aspen Technology, shared his thoughts on AspenTech’s fifth ADIPEC and his company’s approach to advancing decarbonisation through driving efficiency. In an ADIPEC Spotlight Interview, Pietri said: “Our solutions have historically been used to drive efficiencies to create profitability. But over the last 3-5 years, with the shift toward sustainability, those improved efficiencies [are being leveraged to] reduce CO2 emissions. Meeting the ambitious net-zero goals outlined in the Paris Agreement requires the successful deployment of multiple new green technologies, at an industrial scale. These emerging technologies range from low-carbon hydrogen and biofuels to carbon capture, and storage (CCS). We have a great announcement to make: MOL Group has updated its long-term strategy SHAPE TOMORROW that aims to transform the company into a greener, more self-sufficient and more competitive player of the region.   In the center of the updated strategy lies the concept of smart transition which amidst the rapidly changing external environment enable us to deliver tomorrow’s solutions by fostering the green transition without losing sight of the region’s security of supply.
