🕛 I really despise the whole changing of the clocks thing... Anyone else? 🏜 We were camping in Moab, UT, this weekend, and we didn't have any service at our campsite. The entire group of us was so confused as to what time it *really* was when we woke up yesterday morning. 1 powerful mind-shifting hack that works magic is - try sometimes - take 1-5 min breaks during workdays or busy days or when you need some #liftup and watch videos of #waves #dolphins #whales or #nature in general. Few years ago I was fortunate to swim with whales and dolphins in the Atlantic ocean. Ocean, dolphins and whales offered many opportunities to ● connect ● reconnect, and ● learn better ways. There were days when all was in harmony, weather and waves were perfect and pleasant, whales and dolphins where swimming around, showing themselves, and even inviting us to swim with them. Us on the boat and in water in harmony, although the majority of people not knowing each other, and met for the first time. ❣️1 day nature offered a different lesson. That day some new people arrived and there were too many people for the boat and to go swimming. 2 families had a plan for that day to have an experience on the ocean for themselves. They were willing to pay extra for that. Long story short, those 2 families 'won' and had their day on the ocean for themselves. They haven't seen any whale or dolphin, just 1 shark and 1 dead turtle. But there was a lot of plastic and other trash on the surface that day. It was a day of 'only' cleaning up the ocean, picking up the trash that people dropped in the ocean. ❣️What do you think has happened that day? #leadership #life #learning #connected

Some time ago, I came across a question regarding efficiency and productivity within the framework of lean principles. The question arose during a sprint retrospective: if we maintain a consistently high pace of work year-round, can we accurately label it as a sprint? This dilemma brings to mind the saying, "if everything is highlighted, nothing is highlighted."  The traditional definition of a sprint involves working at a high intensity level close to maximum effort for a brief period of time as necessary. Is it feasible to maintain this sprint-like intensity over the course of a marathon? Anyways, the thought popped up in my head and I probably shouldn't use Linkedin as a blog.

⁉️ What's on YOUR Bucket List ⁉️ Do you have an epic adventure that you've been wanting to complete for a while now? Then it's time to commit to making it happen! And a non-negotiable part of that commitment needs to be properly preparing yourself to take it on! MP spent 8 months following a structured, progressive training plan that I put together specifically to ensure that she'd be successful on this epic trip. In her case, this meant building a solid base of strength and conditioning to carry her through one of the most demanding MTB circuits in the world while being able to mitigate the risk of altitude sickness and injury. Unfortunately, far too many people end up being pulled off of their Bucket List Adventure mid-trip due to a failure to properly prepare themselves for the physical - and mental - demands that they'd end up coming face-to-face with. MP even went as far as to say that, if she hadn't trained properly, she likely would have had to call for a rescue helicopter. Thanks to her diligence in training leading up to the trip, that was a complete non-issue and she completed the adventure safely AND with amazing memories that she'll have for the rest of her life! For your Journey of a Lifetime I am an avid traveler, trekker and a mountaineer. I have three rucksacks - 15 ltrs, 45 Lts, 60 Lts. Based on the trip destination, purpose, timeline I decide which ones to carry. Once that is decided, I have to decide what I can or cannot take. Every 1 gm is a tradeoff btw energy(carrying vs Need), time (pace of trek) and money( things are much cheaper in base than in higher camps). There is a particular way to pack things inside called 'ranger roll'. There is also a particular order in which things are packed inside to accommodate ease of carry, things needed on the way, once camp is reached and only required in higher camps. So much planning for a 3- 5 day trek. Life is a long journey. First 20 years our parents provide for us. The next 50 - 60 Years, most of us want to be independent, accomplish our dreams and generally live a good life. Does this not require planning and assistance? Whether a trek is a pleasant and memorable experience or an endless chore at best and a nightmare at worst is determined by the preparedness for the journey - physically and mentally. Our family prioritized some adventures over our recent holiday break… but we paid the price. Maggie, our 4 year old, cried out to me on our trip home form southwest Colorado: “Dad, you keep making me try new things, stop doing that to me!” I had asked her if she wanted pancakes or a burrito from McDonald’s for breakfast… 😅 In that moment though, I realized we had been redlining our little family. Our daughters had done a lot of new things over the last 12 days: - Christmas-lighted zoo trip - Sledding - 2 horse open sleigh ride - Ice skating On top of... - 12 days away from home. - Extensive time with 6 cousins, 4 grandparents, 3 aunts, and 2 uncles. - About 30 hours in the car. - No naps, late bedtimes, unlimited snacks, inconsistent meals. - Loads of screen time. You get the idea… We were all over it. Ready to be done with our adventures and return to our 'boring' lives at home. A few good lessons for me to remember for myself and for our family as we plan our adventures: 1. We’re not always sure what we’ll find when we push our limits. 2. There is usually fun to be had, but it will come at a cost. 3. Our ‘boring’ life at home is essential to both our preparation and recovery for our fun, family adventures. Here’s to more boring and more adventure in 2024 🎉
