In the past 2 months, SANEWOPA-Malawi has focused on engaging with stakeholders in the public and private sectors involved in agricultural development. This has been an enlightening experience, as we have received valuable feedback on our model and suggestions for improvement. Recently, our team members Lovemore Kamwendo and Adrian Semba met with the NBS Bank team in the department of Food and Agribusiness, including Gomezgani Kakhuta and Noordeen Banda. The purpose of the meeting was to: 1. Raise awareness about SANEWOPA-Malawi and its operations 2. Understand the bank's products and services that weekend farmers can take advantage of, as well as the requirements and how they can prepare to access them 3. Identify challenges faced by the bank in working with individual weekend farmers 4. Learn about the solutions being developed by the bank to address these challenges, and what is working and what is not 5. Identify potential areas of collaboration in the future and gather the bank's perspective on our model We were pleased to learn that NBS Bank is implementing a new operational model that aligns with SANEWOPA-Malawi. We are excited about the potential for collaboration and look forward to further discussions with NBS Bank.

Australian Dairy Farmers (ADF) and dairy farmers across Australia are calling on the ACCC to make the right choice and oppose Coles' proposal to take over two Saputo processing sites.    ADF believes that if the deal proceeds, Coles will have a vertically integrated supply chain from farmer, to processor, to retailer, to consumer. When one of the big two retailers is endeavouring to become more powerful in the supply chain, and processors are calling to review and water-down the Dairy Code of Conduct, it is timely for the ACCC and Government to ensure we protect farmers and promote competition – not imbed further systematic power imbalances, lack of transparency, and barriers to competition in the Australian dairy value chain. CCRL Conducted a farmer outreach program on the subject- A Panacea for Farmers-Pledge Finance Against eNWR‘ virtually today. The programme was of great success and attended by participants including FPOs, Farmers, CBBOs, WSP, CWC and other stakeholders. Programme was to make the aware about the opportunities available for the FPOs to stock their produce into the WDRA registered warehouses and empower them to be financially self-reliant. Various incentives are being provided by Banks on eNWR like enhancement of their pledge limit from 50 lakh to 75 lakh, relaxation in rate of interest etc. eNWR holder can sell their produce online and fetch better price due to participation of buyers from all over the country though online platform of BEAM (BSE e Agriculture Market).  Similarly, FPOs can take warehousing as a business enterprise which are constructed under AIF (Agri Infrastructure Fund) and register it under WDRA. Various relaxations are provided by WDRA for FPOs to register their warehouse under WDRA like fee waiver, relaxation in dynamic security deposit (DND), net worth and infrastructure requirement etc. Programme was graced by SBI delegate Mr Rahul Dharwal. He emphasized on the facilities extended by SBI bank against the eNWR and how SBI is leading in the sector of pledge fiancé against the eNWR.
