Endangered and Missing Persons Alerts need drastic and immediate reform, for a variety of reasons. 💡 Today, these alerts are issued inconsistently, and without public education on criteria. Research is needed to understand the most effective ways to reach people concerning missing and endangered persons, to avoid recipients dismissing or worse - disabling future alerts. ⚠️ AMBER Alerts are not technically or categorically the same as other Endangered/Missing Persons Alerts (including the unique alerting categories passed in individual states), and the exclusive way they are issued results in limitations for alerting authorities to issue other endangered/missing persons alerts. Restructuring how these are issued could result in fewer people disabling future life-saving alerts and is critical to preserving the trust in the life-saving capability of Wireless Emergency Alerts. 🪦 If we don’t fix this first, research on future emergency alerts is almost certainly rendered less valuable. The reach of emergency alerts is only as big as the users who keep them enabled. Keeping them enabled means sending high quality messages. #EmergencyAlerts #EmergencyCommunications #MissingPersons #AMBERAlert #WirelessEmergencyAlert #IPAWS #EmergencyManagement

Let’s talk #WirelessEmergencyAlerts…. Tuesday evening we received this #AmberAlert. I was sitting in a board meeting. When the tones went off, people stopped, looked and turned off their phones and literally went back to doing business. A few thoughts: 1) Apple has appeared to fix the hyperlink issue we found during a regional test (yay). 2) People are/ or have become apathetic to these serious alerts. Are we using them too often? Are we getting the message wrong? 3) How do we change human behavior and their reaction or inaction to these alerts? Would love my #AlertAndWarning world to give me your thoughts! Jeannette Sutton this especially concerns me after our last conversation!

⚠ WARNING: THIS IS A FRUSTRATION POSTING, NOTHING MORE ⚠ POSTING 1 OF 2 =========== i am pretty sure, i already have seen the worst support on this planet. had to talk with people who must have watched TV while answering, hating their job so much that they force you to quit or give up. people who are robots, unable to read more than one question. people who are illiterate, people who are blind (but still working on a PC), people who got told to ignore the customer and always ask the same stuff, I would really say: I had them all! a company that is really trying hard to win the Olympics of incompetence, is eBay! eBays developer support is the biggest joke on earth! 🤡 i'm telling you. the developer support staff have an internal bet going on: who can screw over the most developers per month and close tickets without really helping. 🤡 there is no other explanation for this 🤥 I'm handling over 1 million #ebay items across different platforms and - again, i was forced to open a ticket about a particular problem.

Now, this is misleading and not fair 😁. This shit happens to everyone, including Kaspersky. A few years ago, I was working for Microsoft, and one of my VIP customers was running into a similar problem than the one we’re talking about today. Of course, the problem was blamed on Microsoft, until I diagnose it to something in the kernel driver chain. The worst thing was that the customer was swearing that they disabled the recent update they installed, but of course they did not fully uninstall it and roll back. Developers sometimes do shit, and dont really calculate the impact. If a driver is disabled, why the heck is it still crashing the kernel???? All of this to say that, it’s not fair to claim that this never happens to you. Instead, watch, analyze and learn, shit really happens to everyone, and the best ones are the ones who always expect it to happen😁. Have a nice weekend! #crowdstrike #outage #shit_happens

Aside the fact that I blame Kaspersky for this stupid post, I think what happens once again rises the question of software update made secure by design and the need to change of paradigm here. Too many blocks depending from each other, too many quality tests to do, etc.. and too many updates. The IT industry needs a safe SW Update as a Service. Even for my TV, even for my e-Bike, even for my SD-WAN cpe, my desktop anti virus, the gas station PLC, etc..

📣 From our Science and Technology Vault: 🕵️♂️ 👉 Are you a MAC User? 👈 Hold onto your hats because some seriously clever security researchers have uncovered a mind-blowing vulnerability lurking in the latest Apple Macs powered by the M1, M2, and M3 chips. 😱 This isn’t your run-of-the-mill security glitch – we’re talking about a flaw that could give attackers the keys to your digital kingdom. With just a foot in the door, they could potentially waltz right into your sensitive data vaults, nabbing everything from your bank deets to your favourite app logins. 🏦🔒 Here’s the kicker: there’s no quick fix for this one. Yup, you heard that right. The only way to patch this baby up is by ditching your current machine for one packing the latest chip – whenever Apple decides to drop it. 🕰️💻 But fear not, there’s a silver lining. This exploit requires physical access to your Mac. So, unless you’re sharing your desk with a shady character, you’re probably safe… for now. 🤞 But hey, better safe than sorry, right? Keep those software downloads on lockdown, double-check who’s got their paws on your precious Mac, and maybe, just maybe, consider spreading your tech wings beyond the Apple orchard. Your wallet might just thank you later. 💸 To learn more jump into our Science & Technology vault on SQUIZZ.com https://lnkd.in/geNJPe83 #squizz #Totecs #science #technology #StaySafe #TechTalk

What links Greggs, maker of the UK’s most popular sausage roll, and tech titans Apple and Meta? In March and April 2024, all have seen customers struggle to access some of their services - from baked goods, to Big Macs and WhatsApp messages – because of IT outages. Coincidence? Not according to experts, who say such outages now really are happening more frequently. These recent high-profile cases have thrust one particular website into the spotlight. Downdetector is a platform which monitors web outages - its data gives an idea of the extent of the problems companies have been facing recently. More than 1.75 million user-reported issues were flagged worldwide for WhatsApp on 3 April, according to the site. It says tens of thousands were also reported for the App Store and Apple TV. Neither firm responded to the BBC's questions about what had caused their outages. But Brennen Smith, vice-president of technology at Downdetector's parent company Ookla, says such instances reflect what they are seeing - which is more outages taking place and a higher number of reports from users as they happen. "The internet is not exactly getting more stable," he told the BBC. To understand why, you need to understand a little more about the internet itself. Like software, it is composed of many layers. And every time regulators demand changes to platforms, consumers seek seamless access to data or investors push for buzzy new features like AI chatbots, new layers are added. Introducing more layers and complexity creates more risk of things going wrong. "Right now there's a push for these mega giants to incorporate very game-changing new technology into their products and services," Mr Smith said. "I think with the push for innovation now, we're going to start to see tech companies move faster [but] it comes at the risk of potentially breaking things." #TechSecurity #CyberThreats #CyberAttacks #PelionCyberSecurity #DataProtection #TechVulnerabilities #CyberSecurityAwareness

🔒 Security Tuesday - 2FA/MFA Importance 🔒 For those of you who have been using Authy Desktop (2FA Authenticator Tool) for personal use, please note that the desktop application is reaching the end of life. Their mobile apps will continue to work as-is. Link: https://lnkd.in/epFxJbwD 2FA/MFA is an important aspect when it comes to security. Professionals who are somehow working in the technology domain are used to such tools, but people from other domains are not aware of this security layer. I even came to know about a YouTuber whose Gmail account was hacked and held hostage for several days before it was recovered. In such cases, often you might receive a cold response from Google as well, being a "free" Gmail user. Let's make sure to spread the word in our circles/network so that people can set this up and protect themselves. #StaySecure #2FAMFA #OnlineSafety
