Popular commercials constantly shape modern social culture, establish trends, foster stereotypes, and have a profound effect on the consumers. They aim to persuade the consumer and promote the product along with the "idea of differentiation".
Tanishq's latest "Human b toh hu" advertisement is a refreshing departure from the stereotypical portrayal of women, who are typically shown as superwomen. This advertisement features a lady as a normal human being who freely and self-assuredly accepts her limitations.
I liked this ad very much as i feel it is as precious to be an ordinary human as being an extraordinary one.

Language can make people feel included or excluded
But you don't want to exclude anyone right?
So how do you ensure that your content is more inclusive?
You do that by paying attention to the words you use
Take a common phrase like 'Hey guys' as an example
It's frequently used to address a group of people, regardless if you are an employee or content creator
But have you considered the effect it has on people who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community? These two words can make someone feel like they don't belong to a certain group because they are gendered words.
And by the way, don't worry if you use them - we are only human
So if you want to create more inclusive content and don't know where to start
Consider replacing 'hey guys' with 'hey everyone' or 'hey all' whenever you are addressing a group of people.
These alternatives ensure you are taking everyone's race, gender, sexuality, etc. into consideration and are not factors that limit their ability to be part of a group or an organization.
P.S. - this tip was inspired by a conversation I had with Aimée Massey, one I think about every day.

Don’t you think it’s time to change some MENtalities and address the mansplaining?
Recently, I had a thought-provoking encounter that inspired me to reflect on the importance of fostering inclusive dialogue among peers. What was supposed to be a critical and fruitful discussion turned into a one-sided lecture that led me to reflect on the impacts and how we must stop the mansplaining!
Mansplaining, the act of condescendingly explaining something to appear more knowledgeable, underestimates the understanding of women on the subject. While not always intentional or limited to one gender, the tendency to dominate discussions and overshadow other voices must be addressed.
Combating mansplaining must first come from a place of (self) recognition of this bias and its potential impacts on what could be an enriching exchange. Thus, reflecting and recognising what is happening and not allowing its perpetuation - we must be bold in addressing it or, if necessary, leave the conversation. Last but not least, giving and receiving criticism is crucial to work on. Having a constructive and emphatic approach is more powerful than dismissing viewpoints.
Fostering inclusive dialogues requires mutual respect for each voice and an open mind to diverse perspectives without mansplaining our way through it.

As Dunbar & Co theorized, gossip mirrors the ancient act of social grooming, symbolizes our connections, helps to navigate social landscapes, and fosters group cohesion. Language isn't merely a tool for communication; it's the fabric of our social world, shaping our relationships and defining our communities.

On today's tip on how to become a better ally: Embrace inclusive language.
💡Language shapes our world and how we interact with one another. Inclusive language recognizes that words matter and that word choice can be used, intentionally or unintentionally, to include or exclude others. Using inclusive language communicates with people in a way that is respectful and brings everyone into the conversation - a crucial step toward creating a more equitable environment for all.
Today we’re sharing some insights on different types of inclusive language and practical tips on how to use them:
🔹 Gender-neutral language: Use “police officer” instead of “policeman”, or “chair”, instead of “chairman”.
🔹 Person-first language: Say “person with disability”, instead of “disabled person”.
🔹 Inclusive language regarding race & ethnicity: Never make assumptions about someone's origin based on their appearance. Refer to people’s race or ethnicity only if it’s relevant to the information you are communicating.
And remember…embrace inclusive language as it evolves! Language evolves alongside people and communities and it's important to strive to keep pace with this evolution. When uncertain about a term, seek guidance from a member of the relevant community.

: Through vulgarization of body neutrality, #BeNeutral_KR envisions a future Korean society where all women are empowered to recognize and make choices based on their own agency over their bodies and beauty; where women set our own standards of beauty healthily, and where we are free to prioritize our health and agency at all times, away from all external factors including the past and society. Only through free will, as women, we will find independence in building a feminine culture.
2️⃣ Inaugurating a sustainable relationship between the female body and the female mind, through the power of a community of reason
: #BeNeutral_KR wishes to provide a place and linkage of community for our target audience as Korean women in their 20s, to also guide young women in the second decade in a healthier, better direction. As we women balance our bodies and our minds, #BeNeutral_KR hopes to remind women that every individual holds unique, personal beauty and to facilitate communication and sisterhood through open discussions of social beauty standards and culture that are harmful to female health.
3️⃣ Creating modes of education and corporate culture for future women with body neutrality
: #BeNeutral_KR aims to educate future generations of all genders, by allowing all stakeholders in Korean society to take accountability–participation, production, and facilitation of toxic beauty culture; and to build a consensus to work towards creating a better culture and awareness. With emphasis on the impact of the K-pop industry, the core of the growing Korean soft power, #BeNeutral_KR hopes to facilitate our workshop mechanism in K-POP corporate settings and public schools with voices of the actual K-pop industry workers (trainees, K-pop idols) and young Korean women who are most vulnerable to these standards as the main consumers.

"Kaathal: The Core" the Malayalam movie starring Mammooty and Jyothika transcends the boundaries of a mere movie. It's an immersive tapestry woven with real-life struggles, particularly for our LGBTQI+ community, grappling with societal expectations and the suffocating grip of heteronormativity.
Mammooty delivers a masterclass in emotional depth, portraying a gay man silenced for over 20 years. His nuanced expressions speak volumes, capturing the subtle intricacies of a life hidden behind a facade.
This film isn't simply a narrative; it's a stark reminder that coming out isn't a single step. It's a tumultuous journey paved with internal battles, buried desires, and untold truths. The protagonist's struggle to reconcile his true self with societal expectations resonates deeply.
While we may celebrate the abolition of Section 377 today, "Kaathal" reminds us of the harsh reality that existed before 2016. People faced criminalization for simply being true to themselves.
"Kaathal" goes beyond superficial gestures. It's a powerful plea for empathy, acceptance, and the fundamental right to love without societal barriers. Here, courage rests not only with the protagonist, but also with the resilient wife. 💡What is inclusive language?
Inclusive language is the words and phrases you use that avoid biases, slang, and expressions that discriminate against groups of people based on race, gender, socioeconomic status, and ability.
👉Use gender-neutral pronouns like "they" instead of "he" or "she".
👉Do not reflect a diverse group of people.
👉Be mindful of terms related to race, ethnicity, nationality, and culture.
👉When speaking to colleagues about family, use gender-neutral labels for family members.

Did you know that inclusive language is a safety issue?
It’s a key aspect of creating an environment where people from all backgrounds feel safe to belong.
We don’t always get it right, but we can choose to be better each day.
University of California, Berkeley’s Centre for Equity, Gender and Leadership provides a framework of [4] principles for inclusive language:
1. Conveying respect.
2. Communicating effectively through precise language.
3. Recognising diversity (a “Dear sirs” email to all lawyers is hardly inclusive).
4. Being committed to continuous improvement (we can choose to be better today than we were yesterday).
Some things to consider are:
1. Is what you’re saying perpetuating harmful stereotypes?
2. Do the terms you’re using have a harmful history?
3. Do the terms you’re using make everyone feel safe, respected and seen?
4. Do the terms you’re using convey meaning precisely and effectively?
5. Is this the best term you can be using to communicate the message?
Inclusive language is an opportunity to level up.
You don’t want to do yourself a disservice and make yourself appear unprofessional or biased by choosing to exclude people or make them feel unsafe based on your choice of language.
