DIA MUNDIAL DE LOS OCEANOS Hoy, 8 de junio, se celebra el Día Mundial de los Océanos. Con más de 11,000 kilómetros de costa, México posee una basta #biodiversidad marina que sustenta a millones de personas. El #turismo costero genera aproximadamente el 70% de los ingresos turísticos del país. La industria pesquera emplea a más de medio millón de personas y contribuye con alrededor de 56,000 millones de pesos al año a la economía mexicana. Sin embargo, esta riqueza natural enfrenta deversas amenazas. Cada año, México vierte alrededor de 150 mil toneladas de plástico en sus océanos, lo que coloca al país entre los principales contribuyentes a la contaminación plástica mundial. Además, la sobrepesca ha llevado a una disminución del 50% en las poblaciones de peces comerciales en las últimas décadas, lo que pone en peligro la seguridad alimentaria y los medios de vida de las comunidades costeras. El cambio climático también está afectando los océanos de México, con el blanqueamiento de los arrecifes de coral y la acidificación del agua, lo que amenaza la supervivencia de los ecosistemas marinos. Hoy precisamente estoy en Cozumel, que cuenta con la segunda barrera arrecifal más importante del mundo, que está destinada a desaparecer en los próximos 10 años el incremento en la temperatura del mar. En respuesta a estas amenazas, México ha implementado medidas de conservación, como la creación de áreas protegidas marinas y la promoción de prácticas pesqueras #sostenibles.
