Very happy to share that we took part in Global Game Jam 2024 and managed to make a game as a team within 48 hours. We decided to try out something new and went with Godot Engine for this project, as it has been trending lately, and it turns out to be pretty nice to use. In solo jams, you don't have to worry about merge conflicts or disagreements, but you have to do all the assets yourself. Whereas in team jams, they have the opposite problems and benefits. I recently published v1 of Improv Finder for San Diego (using GitBooks, great tool btw) here’s a bit more background on the what, why and how: Improv Finder is an up-to-date directory of active improv groups in the Greater San Diego area. I built it to make it easier for people interested in doing improv to find and participate in improv groups and activities. I was motivated to build it because I’m tired of big websites hiding information and trying to sell me stuff (I have so many bones to pick with sites like Meetup, Eventbrite, Yelp, and even the fidelity of Google’s map results much of the time)… … so I built Improv Finder to help make that information more open and easy-to-access by real people. Deeper motivations for the site come from the shortage of good Third Places in the US, even in more “connected” metro areas. That and systems thinking, since networks and communities are—after all—systems of a kind. More on each of those last two topics eventually.
