Calling all #construction and #property #PR professionals. Welcome back to what is shaping up to be an action packed year for #CIPR #CAPSIG in 2024! But first, a big thanks to all our committee members, from our long standing veterans who have taken a step back, those who are still dedicating their precious time to the committee and to our fantastic out going chair, Jo Field Chart.PR FCIPR FCIHT. Jo has been the driving force in our post Covid transition to a more online based community and is an industry lynchpin in the continuous drive towards equality, diversity and inclusion in the communications and industry sectors. With a #general #election on the horizon, combined with a challenging economic climate, 2024 will be a crucial year for our industry to showcase the social, economic and environmental value our industry brings to our society. Communications is a key part of this process, which is why this year’s CAPSIG events will focus on #networking, communicating #best #practice, managing #regulatory change and what the construction and property sectors need from an #incoming #government. We are delighted to announce that our first event of 2024 will focus on the work of the Construction Leadership Council and how we can work together to communicate best practice across our sector. This will take place at lunchtime on 29 February. Today marks one year since our CEO Gary Cass took the helm at Broste Rivers. And what a first year it has been! Under Gary’s leadership we have undergone a wave of transformative change that has reset and reshaped our business. He has challenged norms and traditions and given the team strategic direction and a real focus and drive on delivering technical excellence and great customer service. Gary has steered us through times of unprecedented change in the building control and wider construction industry with a clear vision and a steady hand, ensuring we adapt and build for the future. Some of the highlights of his first year at Broste Rivers include: BCC Consultancy: We brought to market BCC Consultancy. Only six months in and we are already delivering building control expertise on significant projects for some of the UK’s biggest developers including Berkeley Group Plc Taylor Wimpey plc, Tilbury Douglas & VINCI Construction. Board Advisors: We recently welcomed new board advisors Paul Nash Gavin Dunn and Judith Fear - outstanding individuals who bring a wealth of experience and insight to help shape and guide our strategic direction. A crucible of talent: We've strengthened our senior leadership team with key appointments. They have added energy and expertise to complement and strengthen the team. We have also taken on more apprentices to supplement those already coming through the business. They are our future leaders and will drive our business and industry forward. Competencies: We have focussed on competency. All our building inspectors are registered and 26 have achieved Level 2 registration and above. We currently have 6 at Level 3 / 4. We are proud to be counted among the highly qualified teams in the country. New technologies: We have invested in market-leading inspection software to enable our inspection team to deliver first-class reporting and additional customer service. Award Winning: We were recognised and rewarded for our great work. At the most recent LABC Awards, we won three prestigious industry awards, a testament to our commitment to excellence.   As we look forward to Year Two, we're excited about the opportunities ahead and the continued success we will achieve together. Ranked #1 in the world for Architecture and the Built Environment, the UCL Bartlett is an inspiring setting for teaching. Yesterday, I enjoyed brainstorming with a brilliant transnational cohort of architects, researchers, NHS administrators, and developers of healthcare facilities. The theme of my presentation, 'Reimagining our Neighbourhoods of the Future', is a proposition I plan to return to with leading housebuilders March 21st at Property Week's Later Living Conference in London. My session will explore the art of the possible, where innovative design and technology enables people to maintain their health, independence, and dignity well into later life. During the session, we will delve into the vision of ISO 25553, a groundbreaking new standard framework for 'Smart Multigenerational Neighbourhoods'. Additionally, we will review the findings of SHAPES, a 21 million Euro, 4-year demonstrator project funded by the EU, which investigates interactions between older adults, technology, and the built environment. The Boldt Company's Build Boldly Community of Practice (BBC CoP) is growing! 🎉🎉🎉 Our surging membership numbers and active engagement continue to RISE. 😅 Imagine a place where the art of construction and the science of efficiency converge in dynamic monthly forums like engaging call-in shows. 🎙 Our sessions are more than meetings; they're gatherings focused on design and building from sketches to getting fully out of the ground 🏗 . We're fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas, strategies, and real-world solutions, evolving our project planning and execution through #leanconstruction and beyond. Here are some lessons learned after two meetings: 1. Keep the leadership team small, with the group leader getting executive buy-in, and support the leaders to drive greater alignment toward the group's purpose. 2. Keep the numbers in a visual place. I share the numbers and pertinent data publicly via the MS Teams posts feature with all the BBC-CoP members. 3. Keep the gatherings focused to ensure it is less about presentation and more focused on conversation. Pause often for people to chime in on topics or ask questions. Use a combination of chat and spoken dialogue to engage introverts and extroverts. 4. Keep your cool about cameras. Once you ask for video to be on, go with what people are comfortable with. We all join from across several time zones and locations, so being on camera isn't always possible. 5. Keep a record of the Plus/Delta feedback as you open and close gatherings so you can use the feedback to do more of what people value and make changes for improvements. The BIG ‘Future of Construction’ conversation with Jose Antonio Nieto Alvarez, the new President of CECE - Committee for European Construction Equipment. At the end of INTERMAT Paris this year, I caught up with Jose to understand what CECE is doing to support the Low Carbon agenda, digitalisation, skills, training and the technical challenges the wider construction world faces. We get excited about the future, ‘wishing we were young again,’ and Jose shares his vision of how CECE, working with manufacturers and solution providers and collaborating with organisations like the Construction Equipment Association (CEA).
