The South Bend-Elkhart Region in Indiana (St. Joseph, Elkhart and Marshall Counties) had zero Phase I and II #SBIR|#STTR awards in FY 2016, ranking dead last in the state. In FY 2023, SBE Region businesses took home $24.1M in Phase I and II SBIR|STTR awards - more than the rest of the state combined. FY 2024 is shaping up as another record year, with awards approaching $40M. Many of these businesses are new entrants into the #defenseindustrialbase.
