Vice President at Hologic, a dedicated champion for women's health, focused on early diagnosis and effective treatment, to improve and save lives.
Earlier this month, I read an eye-opening statistic: 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of postnatal mood and anxiety disorder. Reflecting on this, I wanted to add my voice to the discussion. How often is post-natal mental health openly and constructively discussed? I would proffer, not nearly often enough! There’s a stigma; a pressure put on new or expecting mothers to feel nothing but joy – even when that is not the reality. Many women are suffering as a result. We can change this narrative by increasing awareness, reducing barriers to understanding and talking about the effective treatment options to help women recover! So, if you do one thing to educate yourself today, please join me in learning more and using these ready-made resources to spread awareness: https://lnkd.in/gfXuDdwT #maternalMHmatters #worldMMHday #WomensHealth

Clinician. Social entrepreneur. Trauma, mental health & resilience science SME. Neuroscience & health equity evangelist. Co-Founder | CEO @StateChange
Last week’s episode of The StateChange Podcast featured my revolutionary conversation with Vermont state senator Senator Rebecca White about her path through alcohol abuse and entering 12-step recovery in the first year of COVID, in full transparency with her constituents & the public. If you’re not tracking this powerful young leader, I encourage you to get to know her & her work. The power of personal #statechange mental health and resilience storytelling is hard to overstate, something I’ve know as a clinician of 22 years and hoped would translate to the format of this show. The response to this episode—especially from folks in recovery from substance abuse and those who love them—has been absolutely extraordinary. We are working in laser focus at StateChange Media to bring the science and tools of mental health to people directly, outside of the clinical treatment system, but we can’t do that alone; we need courageous vulnerability from folks like Becca and our other guests to give real voice to human struggles so that we can help others find their own footing. Thank you Becca for this conversation & your commitment to connecting the dots on mental health, substance misuse & policy on behalf of others—the feedback loop has been immediate and overwhelming, with comments from listeners assuring us that your story has already had a profound healing impact on others. 🙏🏼❤️🧠 (Link in the comments) #substanceusedisorder #mentalhealth #publicservice #courageousleadership #womenwholead #emerge #12steps #alcoholism #publichealth #addiction #healthpolicy #neuropsychology #womenshealth #mentalhealthatwork

Accredited Psychotherapist 💭 Founder, specialist Maternal, Paternal & Family Mental Health Clinic ❤️ Mental Health Activist changing the way we support and value parents 🗣️
For the fellow or aspiring #mumpreneurs out there, I hope that you find this conversation I had with Susanna Kenyon-Muir helpful, reassuring, validating, but most of all hopeful. That from challenge, can come growth. That it is absolutely possible for you to both mother, live and work your way. In a way that does not compromise your values or your own wellbeing. Whilst the systems around us still currently struggle to work for working parents, an alternative option many of us are taking, is using our new found power in #motherhood, to forge a way for ourselves. Using our existing skillsets, and new found Mumhood power, to drive change that is needed in the world. Motherhood does not make is less valuable it makes us so much more. One day, the world will see that. I am making it my mission so. But, until it does, we can find our own way too. Let me know what you think of it if you get chance to listen 😍 #maternalmentalhealth #worklifebalance #valuedliving #psychotherapist
