I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Sr. Principal - Human Factors Engineering & User Experience at Medtronic! A big shout out to the Medtronic leadership both globally and at MEIC (Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center) for the confidence and entrusting me with this responsibility. A designer always yearns for a safe space to express ideas, to innovate, freedom to try things (and also the freedom to fail), to learn and repeat. This is what the Medtronic has provided to me. New role, but the mission remains the same: ...to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life. I have been having this conversation about AI, Chat GPT, etc, and more of them recently following the chat GPT buzz. It escalated from the initial dismissing, to the awe, and now to panic. I couldn't have articulated my thoughts better than what Don had to say in this video. While AI will change the way we work, it will only make us efficient. To paraphrase what Don Norman says, we have to learn to 'collaborate' with AI. Just like internet, smartphones, emails and web-search, it will only make our job easier. It might save enough time in the day to think about the impact our product has on humanity. What a way to wrap a couple of buzzing weeks at Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center(MEIC). It was a privilege to moderate the panel discussion on 'Building a meaningful Technical Career', which was the last event of 'inn-sights' (Product & Career Fair) at MEIC. It was indeed an insightful conversation with ArunKumar Sathiyamoorthy, Vinay Bapat, Raghi P, Susmita Nallagatla, Raja Kamaraj and Malini C. The discussion revolved around how one can plan to build a 'Meaningful Career'. Medtronic does place a huge emphasis on it. And there it is, a year at Medtronic already! So how did it go? In short: Loved it. It was a great learning experience for the designer-me to get used to the #medicaldevices world, and an absolute gold mine for the human-me 😁 to get to know some amazing people and stories. In love with the amazing culture that the leadership is committed to foster by keeping people first, and the Medtronic Mission that keeps us focused on #patientcare. Any place that trusts and gives space to talent, fosters its own growth, and that of people around, and I'm glad that we are headed the right way. Shout out to my team, leaders, business partners and yes, our band. It is a pleasure to have your friendship and an honour standing with you in our Mission.
