Mind The Weather: Adverse driving conditions only compound the need for defensive driving. Maintain extra driving distance between yourself and other vehicles. Quick stops may be difficult to make! 2. Remove as many distractions as possible. Put all electronics away and refrain from eating and drinking in the car. 3. Prepare To Avoid Trouble: It is essential you maintain your vehicle by checking fluid and oil levels, gauging tire pressure, and keeping an eye on your battery. Preparation is the key to safety! Operation Safe DRIVE stands for Distracted Reckless Impaired Visibility Enforcement. This enforcement campaign targets unsafe driving behavior that often leads to crashes involving passenger cars and commercial vehicles. KSP encourages all motorists to take the following advice while driving on the roads: 👉 Stay out of blind spots: Large trucks and buses have big blind spots on all four sides. 👉Pass safely: Make sure you can see the truck driver in their side mirror. 👉Use your turn signals and don’t linger in the blind spot. Make sure you can see the CMV vehicle in your rearview mirror before you pull in front. 👉Don’t cut off large vehicles: It takes a large truck traveling at highway speeds the length of two football fields to stop. 👉Don’t tailgate: Tailgating a commercial vehicle puts you in a blind spot.

On March 16, 2024, a family of four, including a toddler and an infant, was wiped out by a driver who careened into a West Portal bus stop. This is the second time in less than a year that a driver in an SUV killed a child. The failure to address known safety issues is the result of the pernicious ideology underpinning every aspect of U.S. road design: the prioritization of cars over people. https://lnkd.in/g9HjRUt2
