Today (8/8) is International Allyship Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting the power of unity across the globe. Allyship means actively supporting the rights of minority or marginalised groups without being a member of those groups. The date is especially important this year as we have 8/8/8 – 8th day of the 8th month of the total number of the year – 2024. The number eight has associations with unity, harmony and a feeling of connectedness. Here at Clear Business, we recently focussed on allyship during our annual Celebrating Women event to encourage debate, acknowledgement and more importantly, action. And given recent events, it seems even more fitting to embrace and celebrate this inclusive practice. So, what does allyship mean to our colleagues? -A safe space to express their concerns and receive support -Access to a Mental Health First Aider at work -Lessening the load, support and flexibility when needed -Calling out devaluing behaviours (gender norm) and micro aggression (workplace bullying) -Reducing the gender pay gap and driving equality to ensure our workplace is accessible, inclusive, and free from bias #allyship2024 #workplaceequity #inclusion #IAD2024

Women are about 29% more likely to be tasked with "#officehousework" than men. Office housework consists of those non-promotable, less visible tasks essential for the workplace yet frequently distributed based on gender stereotypes. Merely having a diverse workforce does not guarantee #equitable treatment. EQUITY vs EQUALITY Should everyone in the organization be treated equally???? or everyone should be treated with equity?? Fostering a culture of equity and equality in the workplace is crucial for success! Equality is about giving everyone the same opportunities, but equity is about making sure everyone has access to the same opportunities by being fair. We all understand the importance of fostering an inclusive team that values diversity in gender, experience, domain knowledge, and expertise. The impact of inclusivity is truly profound. In the attached video, we witness how a person can significantly contribute to resolving a long-pending task through collaborative solutioning. It's more effective to seek help today and obtain a solution rather than spending days searching for one independently. The 2024 National Working Families Survey recently released by Family Friendly Workplaces revealed a pressing need to address the challenges faced by Australian parents and carers in balancing work and family life. The results are stark, revealing the ongoing gender bias around flex working and caring continuing to persist. Despite efforts to progress gender equality in workplaces in the last 5 years, very little has shifted. The latest report shows that workplaces need to do more to support the needs of working families.
