Today we welcome Martha Welborne to the Urban MASS Board of Advisors. It’s a great privilege to have Martha recognise the value that our #mobilty technology can bring to cities all across the #unitedstatesofamerica and around the world. Her experience & leadership as the former Chief Planning Officer for Los Angeles Metro will be a huge competitive advantage to us as we secure contracts for our #floc and #DuoRail technology. Martha shares a few words here: “I am excited to be part of the team advising the designers of the Floc system and am particularly interested in imagining how we can employ it in the #losangeles region. While we are currently constructing an expansive addition to our rail system in Los Angeles, the County covers over 4,000 square miles and the rail system will inevitably not reach everyone. The Floc system could augment the rail system by making connections from rail stations to nearby neighborhoods, shopping centers, schools, hospitals, sports venues. It can be adapted to varying urban conditions, is very energy efficient, can respond to changing demand by adding or subtracting pods, and it is very elegantly designed. 🤝 Collaboration between stakeholders and making pragmatic compromises is key to #GetTheNorthMoving. 📢 The great thing about NorthOnTrack, is we're a voluntary public interest body, free to think laterally across the sector, particularly in finding a potential solution to the #Manchester bottleneck, delivering the first phase of #NPR and freeing up capacity on the existing network for metro-style operation as part of the #BeeNetwork. We also take care to put across our proposals in a way that the general public can make sense of, with key reference points. We believe this is key to public-buy-in, and therefore more political will, learning lessons from #HS2. Identifying the tools light rail operators can use to further develop their ‘Just Culture’ proved the key focus of the latest UKTram Operations Group. During a recent meeting in Manchester, representatives from networks across the UK and Ireland took part in a special best practice session on the concept of shared accountability. Led by Dr Peter Hughes of Redcliff Solutions Ltd, it outlined how a just culture encourages organisations to be accountable for systems they have in place and to fairly respond to the behaviours of their employers. Steve Duckering, our Tram Operations Manager, explained: “The session provided a fascinating insight into approaches used to drive safety improvements across an organisation.'' “Following an incident, a just culture asks, ‘what went wrong?’ rather than ‘who caused the problem? This allows for individual accountability and encourages employees to be open about potential risks rather than hiding mistakes.''
