When I am hiring new team members, I look for a lot more than just the technical skills and experience. It's important to me to find people who possess certain qualities that will allow them to successfully collaborate with other members of the team. After all, it's important that new team members fit in not only with the culture of the company, but also the team dynamic. What Qualities I Look for in a New Team Member A Positive Attitude (No mood hoovers!!!) If you are joining my team you need to have a positive outlook on life and a good attitude. This means being able to find the positive even in difficult circumstances and stay away from negativity. Honesty is paramount. It's ok to make mistakes, just be transparent and together, we will fix the problem. Hardworking. It is important that you are willing to work hard and put in extra effort when needed. You must also be able to push yourself and have a hunger to be successful. Creativity. For any team to move forward it needs people who can think outside of the box and push the boundaries. Bring your new ideas and share them with the team. A Good Team Player. This one is a no brainer! The key to the success of any team is the people in it and how well they work together. You must want to be part of the team, be prepared to get stuck in and believe in the team's vision. Finding a new team member is not an easy task. It's well known that sales and growth often pull in opposite directions, so taking the time to really understand all perspectives helps us empathize with each other on the difficult hard problems we are solving AND then move with even more speed once we're back in the office. Watched my first Ice Hockey match this weekend 🏒 It got me thinking.... . . . ...about the sports heritage that MyPeople Group have, working with the Premier League, Saracens, England Rugby and Team GB. . . It's a lot more enjoyable watching a team that works well together and performs well, right? We are strong believers in the marginal gains philosophy and team-fit strategies. The environment and team that an individual works in will affect their performance, engagement and ultimately... retention. . . . This is the same in the world of business, especially as 73% of professionals have left a job because of poor environment fit. 28% of those who left a company in the first 90 days said that team dynamic/environment was the reason they left. . . Notice how I am not using the word culture, because I believe in a team-first approach and look specifically at the environment that individuals are going to work within every working day. EMPLOYEE PROFILE SERIES: Damian Penniston is an Operations Manager for our Monticello, WI plant. He has been in his current role since October 2023 but has been with Sabrosura since 2021. What is your favorite Sabrosura product? My wife and I use our Fresco on a weekly basis! Clean piece of cheese, and it always goes great with our huaraches or tacos! What drives your passion at work? My passion at work is building and watching a team come together. Everyone has a role and purpose. When you start seeing staff call out issues, bring up solutions and think outside of the box while working as a team, it is a great feeling in a company. Pushing individuals and trying to help better them, not only within the company but for their possible future is one of my greatest passions of work. Which of Sabrosura's values resonates with you the most, and why? "Be the Boss of Your Job: Take charge, bring solutions forward and act like an owner" is the value that I most identify with. Ownership and pride in your role. Become an expert in that area and conquer it to not only help the company but also know how far you can go as an employee. Having these attributes is the key way to continue to rise within a company and overall life.

In all my years managing Hotels I have learned how to develop and maintain a strong team. The keys are simple but we often don’t do it. 1) Hire the right person. I learned to hire people who are willing to give of themselves. I can teach you how to do the job but I can’t teach you to be friendly. 2) Train them properly. Don’t cut corners or throw them to the Wolves. 3) Most important is to then get out of their way. Let them do their job. No one likes a micro manager looking over their shoulder. People are the most content with their job if they are appreciated. That they know what they do makes a difference, and that they are part of something bigger than themselves.
