Navigating the Construction Landscape in Indonesia: A Reflection on Career Choices Hey LinkedIn fam! As someone who graduated alongside incredible civil engineering talents, I've noticed an interesting trend among my peers. Surprisingly, many of my friends, brilliant civil engineers by profession, have opted for paths in the oil and mining industry rather than the traditional construction route here in Indonesia. And it got me thinking - why is this the case? One major factor seems to be the current landscape of the construction industry in our country. Post-COVID, it appears that not as many construction companies are actively hiring fresh graduates. It's been a challenge for my friends to find opportunities that align with their passion for building, designing, and contributing to the infrastructure development of our nation. On the other hand, it seems that the oil and mining sectors have become more alluring for fresh graduates. Perhaps it's the promise of exciting projects, global exposure, or the perceived stability that makes them more appealing in this challenging job market. Riding to college, or university is kind of cool. What is more cool is you ride from your hometown Teluk Intan, Perak to USM Nibong Tebal, Penang. Maybe at least I felt I am cool myself. Me, my green Modenas Kriss 2 and my backpack. Riding at least 3 hours oassing thru Kampung Gajah, Changkat Cermin, Beruas, Changkat Jering, Kamunting, Taiping, Bagan Serai, Parit Buntar, and finally, Transkrian USM. Some places maybe skipped. What do you feel riding alone along the journey from home to college? Exiciting, lonely, scared, dangerous, others. Your are fighting for your future. Bring the family hope. To brought back a scroll mentioning you are a civil engineering graduate. Will become a Civil Engineer and gain Profesional Engineer someday (this year). Life at campus played around between me and my ride. Going to class, lunch, hostel, lab, library (hope so), cafetaria, and photocopy shop. Not so much things to do during class day (Monday to Friday). Syukur to what happen in the past, I am grateful finally had graduate at 2008. Start career 15 years ago. Syukur. Gaining experience. Good and less good. Alhamdulillah. Meet different kind of people. Some still contactable and some is not. These are some memories. As I still hold on these words. To avoid from being overboard, tie your self with some memories.

Implementation of Smart Building Systems in the New Capital City For the past five months, I had the opportunity to intern as an Assistant Electrical Engineering Expert in the construction project of Indonesia's new capital city in East Kalimantan. This project was not only challenging, but also provided deep insight into how modern technology can be applied for efficient and intelligent building management. The figure above illustrates the various advanced systems implemented in smart buildings, including: - Electrical System: Automatic monitoring of panel status and electricity usage. - Lighting System: Use of light and motion sensors to automatically control lighting through the Building Management System (BMS). - Disaster Alarm System: Fire detection using heat, smoke, and earthquake sensors, as well as automatic fire extinguishing devices. - Surveillance Camera System: 24-hour live video surveillance of all areas. - Air Conditioning System: Use of VRF cooling system integrated with BMS. - Access Control System: Automatic control of doors and access points from the control center. - Wastewater System: Monitoring of wastewater levels. - Waste Management System: Monitoring of waste volume. - Drinking Water System: Monitoring water tank levels, pump status, and recording water usage. The implementation of BMS allows efficient management of various technical aspects of the building, including scheduling, energy optimization, emergency monitoring, and maintenance of MEP equipment. This experience has enriched my understanding of the integration of technology in modern infrastructure and the importance of efficiency and safety in smart building design. #Internship #NewCapital #ElectricalEngineering #SmartBuilding #Engineering #FutureCity

Glad to hear we are solidifying Penang's position as Silicon Valley of the East. Penang is not land locked like the original Silicon Valley in California and has lots of room to expand, and into neighbouring environs. What we also need to do is to double our efforts to encourage our younger generation that they, too, can participate (and must) in the sharing some of the value of the pearl that is the 'Pearl of the Orient' - what Penang is also called. Too many young local people think the higher value is in the transient sort - social media, gig-economy and what-nots - and are putting their efforts (and livelihoods) into those. Global companies are swarming into Malaysia and the Pearl of the Orient because what we have, and what we have in Penang is indeed a Pearl, polished over several decades. I hope we can put some effort also into thinking about how our youngsters can recognise this too, and stemming (sic!) that trend. Indeed, we all need to do our part and double our efforts *now*. DAS Serang is one of the river watersheds managed by BPDAS Serayu Opak Progo. DAS Serang is in Kulon Progo Regency, directly bordering Purworejo Regency, Central Java to the west. The location of the DAS Serang is between DAS Progo and DAS Bogowonto. DAS Serang is one of the critical watersheds which is a priority for handling and restoration according to the Minister of Public Works Decree Number: 590/KPTS/M/2010. DAS Serang has experienced severe environmental damage both from biotic and abiotic/physical aspects. The heaviest level of erosion hazard in DAS Serang is located in the Kokap sub-district covering an area of 4365.57 Ha. #Kulonprogo #Serang #Mapping
