As the Youth Sector begins to find itself in a position of not being listened to by the current government, I sit here contemplating many of the words that have been said by so many people… The true need right now is Youth Voice to thrive across all areas of our Young People. Not every young person is going to speak up in a way that meets the requirements of politicians, Public Servants and others who constantly ask for Young People’s perspective. There are two critical needs for the Youth Voice Area: 1. We need to create a safe, For Youth, By Youth kaupapa that focuses on Youth Voice for all Young People, not just the High Achievers, and 2. We need proper education within our Central Government, Local Government and Private Sectors on how to engage, understand and truly hear the voices and opinions of our Young People. What are your thoughts?
“We are your future regardless of whether we’re in jail or not – we are still your future.” We need to be listening to young people when it comes to change that impacts them most. How incredibly brave of these rangatahi to share their experience and knowledge.

Interesting look at the impacts of long-term incarceration, and the challenges of accurately assessing this inside the prison wall... Can the trauma of sustained separation from the community ever lead to personal growth? Is this growth or survival, can it be sustained upon release? https://lnkd.in/g3WFfyqY

I have a passion for keeping our adolescents out of jail/detention: I recently spoke with a senior about this topic. She told me that placing these young people in jail would teach them hard lessons and make them better citizens. I shared my firm belief that there are alternatives. I gave her a copy of my new book, which includes lived experiences and researched data stating that the other options are better for our future and community safety. I shared four approaches that must be implemented soon: ** Community-based day treatment programs engaging youth and family ** Behavioural treatment interventions ** Group homes where treatment modalities address risk factors. ** Employ professional, trained staff. Read "END Incarceration" to increase your knowledge of what should be done before adolescents become involved with the justice system.

Educating incarcerated individuals about PICS can help them understand and recognize the potential struggles they might face upon reentry. It can also empower them to seek help, develop coping strategies, and access resources to manage these difficulties effectively. Also, educating prison staff and administrators about PICS can lead to more informed and supportive environments for those transitioning out of incarceration. By addressing PICS within the prison system, it's possible to better equip individuals for their return to society, ultimately increasing their chances of successful reintegration, reducing recidivism rates, and fostering a more supportive and understanding community for returning citizens. Seek to understand, not deny-prison has side effects. #reentrymatters #postincarcerationsyndromeawareness #prison #mentalhealth #pics

Usually when those men and women of incarceration are released from prison their biggest inspiration is the opportunity to regain their life back by creating success. This is a great desire to have; but it can also be their greatest opposition that they will face. Especially, if they are measuring their level of success based off of others. We encourage Returning Citizens to enjoy the process that it will take to obtain the measurement of success they desire. #2ndChanceAdvocate #RealPrisonReform #truetransformation #Insideout #KingdomDiscipleship #ReentryNeeds #sutkprisonministry.org

REENTRY & RELATIONSHIPS Why should I speak out about the lasting impact of prison on individuals when society already stigmatizes them? The reality is that many people are unaware or indifferent to this issue. Even after release, many citizens often remain imprisoned in their minds, causing their families members to suffer from a form of mental imprisonment as well. I know this because, I’ve been that family member and I talk with other individuals several times a week. It's the same behavior in a different ZIP code. Seek to understand, not to deny - prison has side effects. #reentryandrelationships #wifeafterprison #postincarcerationsyndrome #postincarcerationawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealtheducation #prison #reentryprograms
