Exciting News 📣📣 2024 Applications are Now Open for the (YCJF) Youth Climate Justice Fund (grants of up to USD 20,000) The Youth Climate Justice Fund(YCJF) provides core flexible funding to emerging youth climate justice groups. In 2023, we committed funding to 50+ groups globally with a total of $700,000 from 1,800 applications. Sometimes when world events seem so significant ...we feel powerless to make changes. However, by adopting the UN Sustainable Development Goals we are aligning to a set of principles as a guiding light to how we work with donors, how we make decisions on grant funding and how we provide leadership in this space in our region. Ending poverty goes hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and make space for economic growth- all the while tackling the REALLY BIG ISSUES of Climate Change - working to preserving our oceans and our forests. Decades of work and global research has gone into these principles- and now at a local level we can also use these as our guide, right here in the place we call home. If you follow our progress, you will see changes in how we report the funds we receive and the grants we make into our communities. Each will show an alliance to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals. You can help us to achieve these goals by considering the planet you want to leave behind for our childrens children.

With $200 million allocated, DAEF is empowering First Nations to have a seat at the table, shaping policy, strategic directions, and legislative frameworks in alignment with the Declaration Act Action Plan 2022-2027. Only 12 First Nations in British Columbia remain before we can proudly say we have successfully funded all BC First Nations through the transformative Declaration Act Engagement Fund (DAEF). Why is reaching 100% participation so important? It's about unity, strength, and ensuring every Indigenous voice in B.C. is heard and valued in our journey towards legislative and policy alignment with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Every Nation’s participation enriches the process, bringing unique perspectives and wisdom that are crucial for creating laws and policies that are just, respectful, and reflective of Indigenous rights and aspirations. If your Nation hasn’t applied yet, now is the time to step forward and be part of this historic movement. Exciting news! WEN is proud to be a supporter of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global blueprint for building a better future for all. We are particularly thrilled that Leicester's De Montfort University (DMU) has been recognised as the very first global hub for SDG 16. This prestigious title acknowledges DMU's commitment to promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, access to justice for all, and strong institutions at all levels. But what exactly is SDG 16? SDG 16 focuses on building strong and inclusive institutions that uphold human rights, combat violence and crime, and promote peaceful conflict resolution. It's crucial for achieving all other SDGs, as a just and stable society forms the foundation for sustainable development. How does WEN contribute to SDG 16? Through our work, WEN directly contributes to several targets within SDG 16, such as: Reducing violence and injustice: We empower individuals and communities through education and support, promoting peaceful conflict resolution and reducing vulnerability to violence. Strengthening institutions: We collaborate with local authorities and other organisations to build trust and accountability within institutions, ensuring they serve all members of society effectively. Promoting inclusion: We advocate for the rights of marginalised groups and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
