Women in Work Summit US’ Post

Women make up 47% of the US workforce, with nearly 41% between the ages of 35-54. 100% of those women will go through menopause, yet its impact on the workplace remains largely overlooked.  From hot flashes and sleep disturbances to low mood and cognitive changes, there are well over 30 menopause symptoms that women have to deal with as part of the working day. As Serafina Miller from Mercer shared at Women in Work Seattle, 1 in 4 women are taking time off work, or leaving the workforce altogether, because of menopause symptoms. That’s $2 billion in lost revenue, not just to companies but to ourselves. So what can organizations do? ♀️ Raise awareness and educate employees and managers about menopause, the symptoms and impact. 💻 Offer flexible working options to accommodate those experiencing severe symptoms. 🌸 Provide access to resources such as support groups, health workshops and menopause-specific health care. 🗣️ Create a supportive culture and inclusive environment where open conversations about menopause are encouraged and stigma is eliminated. Businesses need to not only enhance the well-being of female employees, but also support, advance and retain valuable talent to boost overall productivity. As Serafina said, “We know that companies with women in leadership financially outperform those that don’t.” Let's continue to champion a workplace culture that embraces all stages of life. #WomenInWork #WomensHealth #SupportingWomen

Loved Serafina Miller’s presentation and thrilled for the additional awareness around menopause. Menopause awareness and education is a crucial first step to creating inclusive and supportive environments. At MiDOViA we always encourage ongoing training as well, so that organizations begin to see meaningful change.
