In case the deck is TL;DS (the "S" is for scroll 🤫) As a guest, I have some pet peeves: 🤦♂️- Long questionnaires 🤦♂️- Host's schedule seems to matter more 🤦♂️- Too many emails 🤦♂️- Unoriginal intro (don't just read my bio) 🤦♂️- Lack of research (research = respect) 🤦♂️- Lazy/vague questions 🤦♂️- Unaware of what I'm promoting (don't ask "where can people find you") 🤦♂️- Begging me to share a poorly edited social clip Remember, your future guests are watching. Kids love field trips! Adults love travel! It’s a Win-Win! Parents, introduce your family to “field travel” (like a school field trip, but better!) You can start right in your home town. Starting local is easy AND fun. Here’s how: 1. Research, decide WITH your child where you’d like to explore. (Check tripbuzz.com or simply Google the name of your city, town, or place that you live or live near.) 2. This part may be new for many parents, but you’ve got this! Open your state’s Department of Education website. Locate the standards that your child must master this school year, they are usually organized by grade level and subject. These are the holy grail for teachers and you were probably not aware that you could even get your eyes on them. Well…YOU CAN! 3. Determine 1-2 standards that you would like to teach your child on this “field travel” day. 4. Before jumping in the car, develop a few questions you can ask your child that will connect the travel with the standards you chose for today, write them down, and take them with you. 5. Ready, set, GOOOOO! 6. Be sure to cover those questions you have written down. These will guide today’s discussions and your child’s learning. 7. Once you are back home, have your child start a Field Travel Journal in an empty notebook, composition book, or binder. Use this for each adventure. It’ll be fun to go back and read previous entries and ultimately watch your child’s content and writing ability improve over time. Before giving a pencil, review that list of questions that you asked during your trip today. Talk about details of things you saw, heard, felt, smelled, etc. Discuss how these things made your child feel. If your child is able to write on their own, give them the pencil. Have them date the page and give the field travel a title and include the name of the place you visited for future reference. Then, set a timer for 10 minutes and tell them to write about their day. They must write continually for that 10 minutes. Allow them to continue writing if they need more time. They can now write for as long as they wish. If your child is too young to write independently, have them tell you about the day and you record exactly what they tell you. Before closing the book on today’s travels, read the journal entry back to your child. This will be time VERY well spent with your child/children. Now, pull out your calendar and schedule your next Field Travel date! Please share your experiences with me. I’m connected with people all around the world and I’d love to learn about the fun places you visit! Until next time… 🌱🪴 Grow with the Flow!

Showing up and expecting good things to happen is a waste of time. The value of Just Showing Up is SO overrated. How so? Here are six things to consider. 1. Tourists show up too. But they don’t get much done, do they? 2. You will not wander into the “next big thing” just by showing up. 3. Be wary of hanging around folks who have “been there and done that”; you might be repeating their mistakes. How do you make the most of showing up? 4. Tune in and listen closely. 5. Pay attention to the background and the context. 6. #Engage with people. #Commit and make offers. Your words create action. If just showing up is half the battle, rolling your sleeves up and getting in the game is the other half. Be a driver, not a passenger. #career Want to talk about it? THIS IS NOT FROM A HOTEL ✨️ Not even close. 2 weeks ago, I put a poll on my profile and you all responded:) "Where the HECK can I GO if I don't want to go to a hotel?" "How do you people with the best of them when traveling?" "What inquiry message can I send if I'm on a budget?" "DO people read my profile?" Travel isn't just a silly little walk for me. I've felt connected to movement and experiences since I was *tiny* If there's one thing I can sniff out it's a fantastic stay with a little bit of research, time, and elbow grease. I live for that process! Starting this weekend, YOU can get in on how I find them, where I'd go (if I were you) and more on my Medium: @marleenawrites We're covering SOLID bits and bobs: 🗣 Dealing with conflict during a stay. 📷 Unconventional opps for views in x cities. 🔮 Best timing for bnb travel. ✏️ How to stay SAFE when going it alone. 🛩 Flight hacks for saving money! 🍴My favorite recipes in kitchen equipped stays. If you're on the move or thinking about it, my blog is for you! ⏰️ Stay in the loop before the new launch - https://lnkd.in/gdyWvMJF 🗳 Missed the poll? You can still vote here - https://lnkd.in/gexx5TJY ---- 👋🏾 New here? I'm Marleena. I'm a content + copywriter with a background in the performing arts. The short version? It means I can learn anything (with time), create everything (watch), and talk to anyone (for real). I love research - so hunting down the good stuff is natural for me. Say hello - [email protected]

As a 2nd gen — your holidays might look different. You might not spend the holidays with your parents. You might not have the deep conversations you wanted with your family. Maybe all you do is go out to eat noodles. You might think you’re not as happy as everyone else SEEMS to be. You might not DO all the things you see people post on social media And that’s ok. You get to decide what you do with your loved ones, if anything. The dynamics are different as a 2nd gen. Your parents may be resistant, unfamiliar or unsure of how the holiday season is and what it means for them They might be used to different traditions. But don’t let anything you want to do or not do, be influenced by what anyone else thinks. If you don’t want to see your parents, ok. If you want to see them, ok. If you want to buy them lavish gifts, great. If you want to just take them out for noodles, amazing. Do what works for you, not what you think you should be doing. Happy Holidays, 2nd Gens! #2ndgens #1stgens #childrenofimmigrantparents #secondgen #firstgen
