"Kimmy is the owner/operator and franchise owner of four Woodhouse Spas, in four states. Juggling the demands of business and, in addition, real estate, would sap the strength of most women. Not Kimmy. She “fiercely protects her energy zone” and attributes the secret to her success, both in business and in her personal life, by taking the time necessary to steadfastly maintain a physical, mental, and spiritual balance." Congratulations to Kimmy K. Powell on her fantastic feature in ELYSIAN Magazine! Let this not be the end of the story for Gary, Indiana. There must be those enduring, compassionate and true entrepreneurial types like Albert Cohen who want to make history and leave a legacy in Gary's resurrection. I wrote an article a couple of weeks ago about creating a canvas of many parts of the city, where dreamers and risk-takers can paint themselves into the portrait of Gary's future. Here it is again: https://lnkd.in/ertp5uYt. #northwestindiana #garyindiana #lakecounty #entrepreneurs #investors https://lnkd.in/eUtxnZuT

Sometimes the sign of success is no sign at all. I'll explain. This is my barber's shop. No signage. No pole. You can't see in from the outside. If you don't know, you don't know. The chairs inside are full every half-hour slot of every business day, unless Carlos or his partners don't want them to be. If you need a haircut, you need an appointment, and if you want an appointment, you physically handwrite your name in the book. If you want your hair cut on a regular basis, you're wise to write your name in for every slot you want for the next three months. At the very least. Not accepting new clients. No referrals requested. Don't ask. Carlos has been cutting my hair for nearly 20 years. He is the only barber my 15 year-old son has ever had. He has clients that include four generations of families... and he's younger than me. You get the idea. This a very successful business. It requires no promotion. It assumes very little risk. It carries very low overhead, almost no liability, and zero debt. But that's not what really matters. This barbershop is a success for at least three important reasons. First, Carlos loves what he does. He loves the craft of barbering. He loves the freedom and independence of his enterprise. And he loves connecting with the people who come through. Second, he is damn good at what he does. He will be the first to tell you that opinions about haircuts are subjective. But the chair doesn't lie-- it's always full. And in my subjective opinion, the mirror doesn't lie either. Third, and most important, this barbershop is a center of community. It's a place of authenticity, safety, respect, humor, encouragement, generosity, loyalty, family, commerce, humility, celebration, grief, grit, excitement, peace, and a very clean line-up and taper. Passion matters, quality matters, and above all, community matters. With that, you don't need a sign. #leadership #success #executivesearch #smallbusiness #followyourheart #community #entrepreneurship #c/s #sacramento #ifyouknowyouknow

This week for our #WomenOwnedWednesday #BlackBusinessMonth, we want to introduce you to Robbin Kelton, Savvy Salon Systems. Robbin is a Salon/Spa Strategist and Salon Growth Coach. She helps stylists and spa/beauty professionals increase sales and scale businesses. What does it mean to be a Black-Owned business owner? Being a black business owner is everything! I provide a service to help other business owners grow their salon/spa businesses. What is your favorite part of being a Black-Owned business owner? My favorite part about being a black business owner is empowering like-minded individuals and seeing the transformation in their businesses over time. My brand is all about community, which is extremely important as a black female entrepreneur. What is your favorite quote or motivational saying that inspires you? Do it afraid!! If you push through that feeling of being scared, that feeling of taking a risk, really amazing things can happen. What steps can individuals take to support Black-owned businesses on a regular basis? Purchase their products and services. Share their posts on your social media. Refer your friends and family that may benefit from that business. What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own business? It’s okay to start small and not have all the answers. Start that business and set 2-3 goals a month to accomplish and it will all come together #SavvySalonSystems #WomenOwnedWednesday #BlackBusinessMonth #BlackBusinessWomen #BlackOwnedBusiness #BlackBusinessMatters #WomenOwned #BeautyBusinessMentor #BeautyBusinessCoach #WomenInBusiness
