This year’s World Wildlife Day theme is exploring digital innovation and highlighting how digital conservation technologies and services can drive wildlife conservation, sustainable and legal wildlife trade and human-wildlife coexistence, now and for future generations in an increasingly connected world. One successful example is European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) Biobank, a well-established resource supporting population management and conservation research created by the European and Western Asian zoo and aquarium community. Given the expanding needs and possibilities for the use of molecular tools in population management it is necessary to ensure optimal and long-term storage of high-quality material that will have a significant impact on future population management and conservation research. The EAZA Biobank meets these requirements and is a unique international initiative collecting and storing samples from 400 member institutions located in 48 countries! Today marks #WorldWildlifeDay, an important global day to celebrate the role of each unique wildlife in our planet & reiterate our commitment for their conservation. This year's theme emphasizes on digital conservation technologies and their contribution in wildlife conservation. At WILD CARE, we make use of modern technologies to produce quality research and promote better understanding on the life history of lesser known species. Our most recent approach includes the use of GPS satellite collar in fishing cats to study their spatial ecology in human-dominated landscapes of Nepal's Terai region. These advance tools helps us researchers gather important data on species movement pattern, territories, land-use pattern etc which otherwise would be hard to predict. On this World Wildlife Day 2024, we remain steadfast to our commitment of wildlife conservation through informed research.

This day commemorates the signing of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. The motto of this event is to focus on the coexistence between humans and the wild, promotion of sustainable wildlife conservation technologies and maintain ecological balance. This day encourages global engagement, education, and action to protect and preserve the world's precious wildlife beyond the confines of March 3.
