The production of our clothes is responsible for around 10% of CO2 emissions, more than aviation and shipping combined. Consumers can try to play a part in making more sustainable choices; however it is regulation that should set the pace for change. http://econimpact.co/wA

How much can we reduce it ? Population is increasing. Clothes based on synthetic fibres are cheaper. When we talk about opportunities for reduction, absolute "as is" value needs to be considered along with feasibility of options for reduction. Ultimately, if we analyse them also from a supply chain and life cycle perspective - raw material production, manufacturing(fibres, fabric, clothes), associated transportation, extending life and use/reuse, etc. - then the solution may not be much different from that for the other products our lives depend on. That we need an alternative source of energy to make the biggest dent, besides any efforts to reduce the emission per unit of our need.
