If left unchecked #antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is projected to cause a GDP shortfall of at least USD 3.4 trillion annually and push 24 million more people into extreme poverty. How can countries better respond to AMR? With the Quadripartite, we have developed recommendations for an urgent and accelerated response to AMR.

Addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) requires a multifaceted approach involving various sectors and stakeholders. Here are several strategies that countries can implement to better respond to AMR: Strengthen Surveillance and Monitoring: Develop and maintain robust national and global surveillance systems to track antibiotic use and resistance patterns. Improve data sharing between countries and organizations to monitor and respond to AMR trends effectively. Promote Rational Use of Antimicrobials: Implement stewardship programs in healthcare settings to ensure appropriate use of antibiotics. Educate healthcare professionals and the public about the risks of overuse and misuse of antibiotics. Enhance Infection Prevention and Control: Strengthen infection prevention and control measures in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Promote good hygiene practices and vaccination to prevent infections. Foster Research and Development: Encourage the development of new antibiotics, diagnostics, vaccines, and alternative therapies through incentives and funding. Support research on understanding the mechanisms of resistance and developing novel treatments. Improve Regulatory Frameworks: Enforce regulations to ensure the quality and efficacy of antibiotics. Restrict the availability of antibiotics without a prescription. Encourage International Collaboration: Collaborate with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Participate in global initiatives and action plans to combat AMR. Raise Public Awareness: Conduct public awareness campaigns about the dangers of AMR and the importance of responsible antibiotic use. Engage communities in efforts to prevent infections and reduce the spread of resistant bacteria. Address Antimicrobial Use in Agriculture: Regulate the use of antibiotics in livestock and agriculture to reduce the development and spread of resistance. Promote alternatives to antibiotics in farming, such as improved animal husbandry practices and vaccination. Invest in Health Systems: Strengthen health systems to ensure access to clean water, sanitation, and quality healthcare. Improve diagnostic capabilities to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis of infections. By implementing these strategies, countries can work towards mitigating the impact of AMR and ensuring the continued effectiveness of antimicrobial agents.

🌍 Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance: A Global Imperative 🌍 Thank you for highlighting the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The projected economic and social impacts are indeed staggering, with a potential GDP shortfall of at least USD 3.4 trillion annually and the risk of pushing 24 million more people into extreme poverty. At Trimedic, we believe that combating AMR requires a multifaceted approach, engaging all sectors of society. Here are some of the key strategies we advocate for: 🔬 Innovation in Pharmaceuticals: Encouraging and funding research and development of new antibiotics and alternative treatments. 📚 Public Education: Raising awareness about the responsible use of antibiotics among both healthcare professionals and the general public. 🌐 Global Collaboration: Strengthening international partnerships to share data, best practices, and resources in the fight against AMR. 🏥 Strengthening Healthcare Systems: Improving infection prevention and control measures in healthcare settings to reduce the need for antibiotics. 🔍 Access to Rapid Diagnostic Testing: Ensuring availability and accessibility of rapid diagnostic tests to accurately identify infections and guide appropriate antibiotic use. 📊 Surveillance and Monitoring: Implementing robust systems to track antibiotic use and resistance patterns, helping to inform policy and practice. We commend the Quadripartite for their comprehensive recommendations and urge all nations to prioritize an accelerated response to this urgent threat. Together, we can mitigate the impact of AMR and protect global health and economies. #Trimedic #AMR #GlobalHealth #Innovation #Sustainability #RapidDiagnostics

This document sets out the key recommendations of the Quadripartite organizations (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Health Organization (WHO) and World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH)) for an urgent and more accelerated response to AMR, for consideration by Member States at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-level Meeting (HLM) on AMR in September 2024. The HLM on AMR presents a unique opportunity for global leaders to invest in the present and secure our future by enabling effective national and global actions to save millions of lives, safeguard animal health, food safety, food security, protect the environment, and fortify economies against the threats of AMR for years to come. #antimicrobialresistance #antibioticresistance #AMR #globalhealth #publichealth #onehealth
