World Organisation for Animal Health’s Post

A 100 years back, artificial intelligence was a thing of dreams. But living through a century means reflecting over the past. To imagine WOAH’s potential role in these animal health and welfare landscapes, stakeholders were involved in a Participatory Foresight Project (PFP) where participants used foresight methods to investigate opportunities and disruptions, encouraging discussions on complex issues and exploring possible scenarios impacting WOAH and Veterinary Services in the 21st century. What do you think of scenario #29? #WOAH100

The veterinary human network and AI can work together to spot animal health problems early. Here's how it will work: Vets, farmers, and animal health workers observe and report unusual animal diseases or behavior. This data is analyzed by an AI system to identify disease patterns. If the AI detects potential outbreaks, it sends alerts to prompt quick action. The role of the WOAH is to coordinate this system globally. They help standardize and verify the data, ensure effective communication between countries, and provide guidelines to manage and respond to animal health issues. This will help to create a worldwide network for detecting and controlling animal diseases early.

It's always about learning the correct diagnostic paths, even if we see the aberrations in the known disease process. And the role of AI is to duly note it, categorize and stock the knowledge base being continuously fed by professionals. And over time, monitor and warn about threats to public health. WOAH role is to promote this approach on each level, despite its national or international and emphasize the need to gather the data. Only then the AI will be indeed able to help with its full potential.
