Rangolis, Retreats, and Rewards. #HR, or #HumanResources, is often perceived as easy, non-revenue generating, and transactional. It took me over half a decade of academia and consulting to truly appreciate the depth and value HR brings to individuals, businesses, and communities. From talent acquisition, onboarding, engagement, EVP and performance management to career development, learning, HR tech, organizational design, and job evaluation. HR creates impact across the employee lifecycle. Recently, I had the privilege of listening to the doyen of HR in India and the founding member of the NHRDN, TV Rao sir. His clarity of thought, strength of purpose, and passion for HR were deeply inspiring. To commemorate #InternationalHRDay, Iโm sharing a few nuggets of wisdom from the session: - Human Resource Development is a collective responsibility. HR professionals are merely the instruments of the practices and processes to achieve it. - HR is one of the few functions that have a responsibility towards all stakeholders โ shareholders, Board, employers, employees, business leaders, other supporting functions, family and friends of the employees, community, environment, and society at large. - We must transition from a performance appraisal mindset to a performance analysis and development mindset. - HR systems and processes must empower individuals, not stifle individual spirit by overemphasizing adherence. - HR must ensure that every employee experiences a deep sense of belonging and is aware of their contribution towards larger organizational objectives. - HR practices and policies must be founded in respect, empathy and clarity. - Those who seek best practices will at best be 2nd. Move from BEST PRACTICES to NEXT PRACTICES. I am grateful to Nathan SV, Ramesh Ranjan, Sreekanth K Arimanithaya, and the entire team at Global HR Community for organizing this insightful session. Here's a sneak peak to it๐ ๐Since Aviva India is an insurance company with PAN India presence so to boost engagement with the Branches, we organized Branch visit of all the CXOs. ๐We picked 30-35 branches and divided it among the leadership team. ๐We designed a tracker to update the inisghts observed in the branches and record any cancellations. ๐Since it was the JFM cycle, it was a very crucial action plan for the business growth. Such initiatives are very strategic and are actually those which cover the major percentage of what Employee Engagement actually entails!!!
