At FORA, we understand the essential role refugees play in our society. They not only bring diversity and enrich our culture, they also contribute to the economic development of America. Sasha Chanoff, in her article “What gets lost in the immigration debate,” comes forward to argue the involvement of refugees in the reduction of the fiscal deficit in the United States. The revitalization of cities, creation of businesses, increase in the labor force and community engagement are only some of the many positive outcomes of the participation of refugees in America. Like FORA, many other organizations including Refugee Point, which is led by Chanoff, work to build a more welcoming environment for refugees. Welcoming, supporting, and protecting the rights of refugees and immigrants is the humanitarian thing to do. What people often don't realize, however, is that it's also the smart thing to do.
