In a chat with Dan Milmo at The Guardian, our #EntertainmentOnDemand expert Dominic Sunnebo suggested that the likes of Netflix, The Walt Disney Company's #Disney+ and Now TV will not be fazed by Tubi’s arrival, but it will increase pressure on rivals in the free, ad-funded space. “Those players have had fairly easy growth until now,” he said. The rise of streamers has catalyzed a (New) Golden Age of TV. Episodic shows have become more engaging, slicker than ever, and more nuanced—honing in on pinpoint cultures and subcultures. With shows so engaging it’s not surprising that when we hit an ad break, we can’t hit skip fast enough. But aren’t ad makers missing a massive opportunity to connect with a relevant and ultra dialed in audience? Sibling Rivalry Partner and Head of Films, Darren Foldes points out that “If we align as an industry to address the mismatch in quality between the majority of ads on streaming platforms and the incredible shows they house, we’ll start a virtuous cycle of more channels, more opportunities, and, in turn, continuously better creative work.” Read Darren’s POV below via Print Magazine: https://lnkd.in/dZ_vr2PN 🎨 by SR Design Director, Eduardo Palma #advertising #streaming #production

Acknowledging per my comment a great show, great creatives, great platform. Cornerstone content continues to be key. I’ve been in media and tech for about as long as Robert M. Bakish, for whom I have huge respect. We’ve discussed the challenges and Imperatives facing the industry. Despite the impasse at the moment, and a seeming chasm between the studios and the talent that drives eyeballs to revenues, Value remains with Talent. I wrote publicly 5-8 years ago that the streaming revolution meant studios no longer need to create volume and a long tail (industry speak for crap). The money needs to go into fewer bigger better productions but also more creative diversity. You don’t have to fill a schedule but you do have to meet demand and tastes are shifting. When I worked for the biggest B2B tech company in the world, managing their media sector, I was also engaged in broader strategic dialogue with the Board. I’ve also led strategy at one of the most important media companies in the world. We were one of the biggest investors in R&D (to the tune of about 1/4 of all Silicon Valley investment - now think about it that’s huge). I made a simple argument we should invest outside (at scale, $B’s). Sure we might have had 1/5 (do the math right) of all innovation assuming $spent = innovation delivered. But even on that assumption it meant we were missing out on 4/5 - that’s also huge. But we had a hugely proprietary history. That’s now all turned on it’s head tech is all about open source, and my old firm too (posts to follow). The media industry is retrenching, doing less, In danger of experimenting less; navel gazing internally whilst the world creative and cultural connectivity explodes - it’s the right plan (conserve cash, efficiency etc) but it’s also the wrong plan (see my earlier post referencing Saul Betmead de Chasteigner). So Bob (Or the other Bob, Rupert, Mike, John, James, Elizabeth, Martin or Tim) let’s do something new and innovative. Take a look outside, get on ground-level with us. Work closely with our talent and yours and feed the audience via your platform what they’re really ready for: something new, something borrowed, something old (I’m sorry we don’t do blue). It doesn’t need to be a marriage, but I’ve always felt this small media industry works best together. I’m hugely sympathetic to the concerns, and we would support as a small indie, but outside the USA we’re not on strike and talent and stories are Global. You have to go to where there’s a thriving positive cultural clash to find true creative innovation. Much of that is outside the USA - we’re inherently culturally heterogeneous. And whilst we’re at it let’s show our audience the world and do some good for society. Media is the industry that counterbalances a poorly functioning political system. There’s no more fascinating story than US politics right now. WTS our content is coming. IAXA Global #StoriesthatShouldbeTold #VoicesthatNeedtobeHeard

Think your favorite show is safe on streaming? Think again. Streaming giants such as Disney+ and HBO Max are navigating uncharted waters. Rather than capitalizing on their expansive libraries, they're pulling the plug on big-budget shows even before they hit the screen. What's driving this? It's a mix of substantial cost-cutting and tax-saving strategies. Disney+'s much-awaited "Nautilus," a prelude to Jules Verne’s masterpiece, has been buried by this approach. Similarly, crowd-pullers like "Westworld" and "Willow" are vanishing without a trace. The allure of streaming—the promise of limitless, ever-present content—is proving to be a mirage. Amid cancellations and industry upheavals, our trust in perennial content is wavering. #Disney #HBO #Streaming #Entertainment

🙋🏻♀️ Disney+ question: Does Disney+ have autoplay? Is there an option somewhere in settings where I can enable it? And if they don’t have autoplay, why? Asking for myself and every other parent out there who is trying to get some things done around the house before it becomes full blown holiday madness, and it’s impossible to do it all within 1 episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I need at least 2. ☺️ #disneyplus #disney #streaming #streamingmedia #disneyfamily #consumerinsights #disneystreaming
