Welcome to our annual flagship event Asian Insurance Forum (#AIF) 2023! We are thrilled to host more than 1,700 onsite and online participants today with more than 20 distinguished speakers taking the stage and sharing insights about topics relevant to the future of the #insurance and financial markets. Mr John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), addressed the audience with his keynote speech, casting a strong vote of confidence on future development of the insurance industry. “In a world beset with uncertainty and instability, insurance has grown ever more important, providing much-needed security and peace of mind for us all. I am confident that the insurance industry will continue to create opportunity for our financial services sector, for the Hong Kong economy and for the community at large,” he said. Echoing AIF’s theme “Striving for Enhanced Global Financial Stability and Resilience”, Mr Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR, highlighted in his keynote speech the importance of consistently developing and enhancing the financial markets to strengthen resilience, while another keynote speaker Mr Jonathan Dixon, Secretary General of the IAIS - International Association of Insurance Supervisors , shared why resilience needs to be a more important focus than ever in the current global environment. The event was further enriched with four engaging panel discussions moderated by Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan, Former Convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council of the HKSAR and Chairman of Asia Insurance Company Limited; Dr King Au, Executive Director of the Financial Services Development Council; Professor Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist of Institute for the Environment of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and Dr Norman Chan, Former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Founding Chairman of the Institute of Web3.0 Hong Kong.
