Red Bull Racing was the only F1 team not to share a celebratory post on International Women's Day 2024. Was that the right decision? 👇 🙋♀️ Last Friday was International Women's Day. It has become customary for companies to post on their social channels highlighting how they are helping create a gender-equal world and celebrating the women in their business. 🏎 Indeed, the first-ever F1 Academy racing round (an initiative committed to driving change through increasing female participation in motorsport) coincided with the day. ♀ However, many companies chose not to post and there has also been pushback in recent years, by some on LinkedIn at least, about #iwd posts being used to virtue signal rather than as a catalyst for meaningful change. 🗓 This didn't stop Red Bull Racing from posting in 2023, but it seems the decision in 2024 has been not to show public support. 🤔 And oddly/unfortunately, when you try to click on the Red Bull Racing International Women's Day 2023 website page, sponsored by team partner CDW, you get "Well, this is embarrassing. Where did the page go?!" ❌ Of course, the decision not to post in 2024 has been taken in the middle of the ongoing situation whereby a female employee has "accused team principal Christian Horner of inappropriate and controlling behaviour." 🗣 I suspect internal discussions have centred around the want to celebrate and show public support for the women in the team whilst also not wanting to provide a catalyst for further criticism and debate. ❓ Was the decision to stay quiet the right one or should Red Bull Racing have joined their fellow teams in demonstrating their support? Recently featured on @CBS News, Lauren addressed the inequality in the upcoming Olympic games: “One Olympic sport that has not been open to women is the 10-event decathlon, whose winner is crowned 'world's greatest athlete.' (Women instead compete in the seven-event heptathlon.) But there are women athletes, young and older, who would like to see that changed.” Lauren finds inspiration from generations of women who continue to break barriers, even into their 90s. This is Arisa Trew. At just 14 she is Australia's youngest ever Olympic gold medalist. She won for skateboarding - fast, fun, crazy, creative and brilliant sport. Not unlike advertising at its finest. When women first competed in the Olympics in 1900, they accounted for just 2.2% of the competitors. This year at the 2024 in Paris Olympics, there's roughly the same amount of female competitors as there are males. And certainly in Australia, women are leading the men when it comes to gold medals. In our industry, men still outnumber women when it comes to creative leadership. In America there's still only 27% women. Sadly, in England and Australia it's more like just 10%. Why?
