Happy New Year!!! At XSELL 2024 is the year of MORE. You might be asking what does that mean? Well, for nearly a decade transformation has merely referred to where the work was being done ie.. off shore, at home, in the cloud, etc.. Don’t get me wrong as a Pioneer in virtual work my team had 20k+ at home workers back in 2010 and I know just how innovative and forward thinking we had to be to achieve a NEW NORM in work life balance that now seems somewhat ubiquitous. But given the pace of innovation we need to demand MORE from transformation!! With AI we are not only changing how the work is done but we are also changing how the goal is achieved and most importantly extending the horizons for where to set goals… instead of some pedantic short sighted goal like let’s automate X number of jobs Imagine for a moment every customer, patient or member having access to the best and most accurate answer with no friction ANYTIME, ALL THE TIME, ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE. Be Courageous, Demand MORE in 2024 and equip your teams to hit the goals that seem far off in the distance. MORE in 2024!!

Time for me to share some 2023 reflections. I'm going to start with some Professional reflections first but have a post on just personal stuff too (because we are more than just working individuals). 1. I learnt a ton about the true differences between being Product-Led and PLG. The reality is driving PLG and being Product-Led are two different things but we don't talk about this enough. I think becoming Product-Led first helps drive a PLG motion in general. Going to explore this topic more in early 2024. 2. Product-Led-Sales is probably our answer to the constant pendulum swing of "PLG vs SLG". The reality is you can have your cake and eat it to, you just have to remove a ton of egos, focus on your user experience and making a very easy-to-use product. From there deeply focus on your customers, their personas and understanding your ICP. That's all 🤣 3. My passion for Product Management really came to focus for me this year after mostly just talking about PLG in the last 2 years. I found myself mostly talking about Growth topics alone instead of Product as a whole and got the most joy when actually speaking about Product, rather than just PLG. Expect that change from me in 2024. 4. My most popular LinkedIn topic this year was actually around User Experience being a defining competitive advantage for most B2B SaaS companies. It drove a ton of conversation both on the posts themselves but even more through DMs and then coffees chats. I think it's something we all need to think about more deeply. 5. I gave up the idea and chase of Inbox Zero in 2023 and I couldn'tt be happier. Not sure if others can relate but Inbox Zero felt like chasing Platinum trophies on PlayStation which I just don't do. I think trying to be a completionist leads to OCD-like tendencies (which I used to have). I put alot more focus on Slack but even then I'm toying with the idea of not worrying about "Slack Zero." 6. WFH is a grind. I think people need to connect in-person much more respect than we are giving. You can be a remote company but you need to budget for in-person activity, and I think it needs to happen almost quarterly. I imagine we will start seeing companies ensure they budget for this moving forward and even decide to not hire more people to budget for team bonding, team morale and keeping high team performance. After all, high-performing teams matter most in software IMO. Will post my personal reflections on the 2nd. Have a great New Years folks!!!

Pandemic winners are struggling in the post-pandemic world and the accompanying infographic provides all the gory details. “Zoom Video Communications, the company that rose to fame during the early days of the pandemic, ended fiscal 2024 on a strong note, reporting results for its fourth fiscal quarter ended January 31 that beat analyst expectations on the top and bottom line. Adjusted earnings per share were up 16 percent year-over-year while total revenue and enterprise revenue increased 3 and 5 percent, respectively. That’s still a far cry from the growth figures Zoom posted during the pandemic, when the company saw its revenue grow manifold in a matter of months. The end of working-from-home requirements and subsequent return to offices as well as stiff competition from Microsoft Teams, Cisco’s Webex and Salesforce’s Slack have brought the former pandemic high-flyer back to earth. “Zoom isn’t the only pandemic winner struggling to maintain its momentum in the post-pandemic world, however. Other companies that soared under the special circumstances created by Covid-19 have also come crashing down over the past two years, as normal life gradually returned. Home fitness company Peloton Interactive and DIY marketplace Etsy, which profited from a large volume of mask sales on its platform during the pandemic, are two such examples, along with vaccine maker Moderna and DocuSign, a company that allows companies to manage agreements electronically.” Source: Statista Daily Data As the following chart shows, all of these companies saw their stock price surge during the Covid crisis, but all of them have fallen more than 75 percent from their peak pandemic valuation. $1,000 invested in Moderna shares on March 11, 2020, the day the World Health Organization declared the Covid-19 outbreak a pandemic, would have appreciated to more than $20,000 by August 2021 and would still be worth almost $4,000 today. Absolutely wonderful keynote from Alexis B. yesterday at #Vision2030. Paraphrasing her inspirational words: There is a finite amount of time in the workday. The acquisition workforce is at capacity (and has been for years). Therefore, every new training, policy, review or requirement that is added MUST have an equal offset to the current workload! This is simple math. For the last 15-20 years, the AWF has been performing 40 hours of work per week. And yet, during this time, new trainings have been added, more CLPs have been added, more forms, policies, and reviews have been added. How many hours per week is the AWF at now? 45? 50? And yet, we're all still just working 40 hours a week. The result, our brains are tired, we're taking shortcuts, we're simplifying complicated tasks. This is not the service our agencies and ultimately our citizens deserve.
