It was such a delight to spend 2 hours with Shihan (Han) Fang on her podcast discussing the ins and outs of developing real world #naturebasedsolutions projects on the ground today. Our sector is at an important crossroad and grappling with important but in no way insurmountable challenges. These challenges relate not to the underlying legitimacy of nature-based solutions or even the carbon market, they are simply challenges related to the important and iterative and necessary process of continued improvement, development and application of learning. To my colleagues in the market, the bridges through this period are being built. We will link and integrate these “voluntary” and compliance markets. This sector will emerge in a way that is stronger, more integrated and ready to serve a greater global economy that needs these solutions. It will be different, and I think I speak for us all when I say, thank goodness for that. Keep up the good work. To those continuing to look critically from the outside in, continue to do so, but do so from the standpoint of asking yourself where there is room to build and improve, not simply destroy. (TSX V.ALDE)’s majority owned Altar project hosts over 13bil pounds of copper and almost 4m oz gold already, a world class-sized copper/gold resource. Aldebaran’s massive copper endowment has received an interest from Australian copper producer South32, which has made two rounds of investments into Aldebaran since 2020. We see all the major economically viable deposits in this region as potential takeover targets, because the copper endowment is too big to disregard for a major producer. #cdfund #commodities #metals #event

This outstanding paper by MAG (Mines Advisory Group) Director of Engagement Jon Brown rests on the pillars of ethical storytelling, which MAG are implementing as policy. 💡 There is no "other": deminers, community liaison officers, administrators, and managers are from communities affected by explosive contamination. This week Protect the West Coast attended a ‘Speak Out Event’ hosted by Western Cape small-scale fishing community rights activism group Masifundise Development Trust. Titled 'Silent Erosion: the slow violence of mining on the West Coast,' ahead of the upcoming Fisher People Tribunal, at the event Carsten Pedersen, from Transnational Institute (TNI), shared critical insights from their recent report ‘The Sand Worth Billions,' which focuses on mining companies' impact and in particular sheds light on how mineral sand mining activities are reshaping South Africa's West Coast. Drawing from the report, Andre Cloete from Coastal Links and Alex Hotz from WoMin African Alliance highlighted how mining has impacted fishing communities and the forms of violence that emerge from these developments. The space allowed for in-depth engagement emphasising the need for solidarity among activists and civil society organisations in the fight for social, economic, and environmental justice. I'm in Postmasburg, a small mining town in the Northern Cape, waiting for a group of young people to start a focus group workshop. We're here to talk about ways to co-create solutions for young people who are not in education, employment, or training. They're an hour late, and at first, I was a bit annoyed. Why aren't they on time? Don't they care? But then I paused and thought about it. What if being on time is a luxury these young people just don't have? Maybe they couldn’t afford the taxi fare, or something at home held them up. Maybe just getting here is a big deal when you're fighting off hopelessness every day. It made me realise that the lives of young people in places like Postmasburg are complex and challenging in ways I hadn’t considered. It’s about more than just being late—they're dealing with real pressures, and often, real despair. Understanding this is crucial. It’s how we find real solutions, not just what we think they need, but what will genuinely help them thrive. So, in this new month of August, let’s commit to a deeper understanding and real actions to help.
