After signing a contract with ACME for offtake of green ammonia produced in Duqm, Oman, Yara has signed a term sheet with AM Green's (formerly Greenko) Kakinada facility. While there have been concerns about the offtake agreements for green hydrogen and its derivatives, the recent developments in the ammonia and green steel (H2Greensteel) are signs of progress and a cheer :). The Kakinada facility will most likely use pumped use renewable energy to generate the energy required for ammonia and used pumped hydro storage for energy storage. Yara International is producing renewable hydrogen and ammonia at its 24 MW plant at Herøya in Norway and has already delivered the first supplies of fertilizer made from renewable ammonia produced. The hydrogen replaces natural gas as the feedstock and is annually cutting 41,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the site. As the world is rapidly approaching 2030, we are also working to produce low-carbon ammonia with CCS to enable the hydrogen economy and develop the emerging markets for low-emission ammonia". Green Hydrogen and Chemicals Company Port of Duqm Company SAOC (GHC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Indian renewable energy group ACME Group Cleantech, has signed a firm and binding agreement with leading Norwegian crop nutrition company Yara International through its subsidiary Yara Clean Ammonia for the supply of green ammonia on a long-term basis from its proposed green hydrogen project at Special Economic Zone in the Sultanate of Oman. Both companies had previously signed a non-binding offtake Term Sheet and the current agreement concludes 18 months of negotiations during which the regulatory framework and certification regime have evolved significantly, creating a suitable environment for such long-term contracts. The long-term offtake agreement between Yara and ACME covers the supply of 100 000 tons per annum of renewable ammonia and one of the world’s first arm’s length contracts for renewable ammonia of this scale and tenure. Over its life cycle, the project will help reduce global GHG emissions by up to 5.0 million tons of CO2 equivalents. In the base case, the renewable ammonia will be supplied by ACME from Phase-1 of its Oman project with an expected start date in 2027 and will comply with the EU RFBNO and Renewable Energy Directive requirements. “Yara Clean Ammonia is a frontrunner in enabling the hydrogen economy across the shipping, food, power, and industrial sectors. The renewable ammonia from Oman will be part of our scalable distribution system, developing a reliable, safe, and cost-efficient supply chain for low emission ammonia across different market segments.
