Some positives recently for #hydrogen sector with Yara International opening their 24MW #renewablehydrogen plant and TotalEnergies and Air Products inking their 70,000 tons hydrogen offtake agreement! Both aiming to replace current grey hydrogen use. There's a negative connotation for clean #hydrogen sector recently, surrounding higher costs. There's always costs associated with transitioning to cleaner energy but we will definitely need to push on to achieve our goals for the future. Kudos to the first movers and pioneers! Plenty of opportunities here to emerge as market leaders in the future.

Ah, ammonia - it's not just for cleaning.. Yara Clean Ammonia, part of Norwegian ammonia and fertilizer manufacturer Yara, and fellow liner operator North Sea Container Line have joined forces to deliver the world’s first containership that will use pure ammonia as fuel. The Yara Eyde has been optimized to operate between Norway and Europe, serving ports in Oslo, Brevik, Hamburg, and Bremerhaven. Starting from 2026, Norwegian companies will have the opportunity to export their products with a minimal carbon footprint, while imports into Norway can be achieved emission-free. The use of pure ammonia as a fuel shows promise in reducing emissions from ocean-going ships. By producing ammonia from renewable energy or capturing and permanently storing up to 95% of CO2 emissions when using natural gas, it emerges as a viable solution for cutting carbon emissions in the maritime sector. https://lnkd.in/d42vWN8P

1️⃣ It's used in the production of carbon-neutral #fertilizers  2️⃣ It will contribute to decarbonizing the agri-food value chain   3️⃣ It has potential as a future climate-neutral shipping fuel     We're talking about #greenammonia! 💚 Green ammonia is a key solution to reducing the world's dependency on #fossilfuels, as it makes use of #renewableenergy sources such as:  💧 hydro-electric power   ☀️ solar power   🌬️ wind turbines    How is green ammonia made?  The raw materials for green ammonia are #hydrogen, obtained through the electrolysis of water, and #nitrogen, obtained from the air using an air separation unit. Green ammonia can then be synthesized from nitrogen and hydrogen, with the Haber-Bosch process currently the only method used on a commercial scale.    Why does green ammonia matter?  Ammonia is both a chemical energy carrier and a fuel, as the energy is released by the breaking of chemical bonds. Additionally, it has the advantage of not releasing any #carbon emissions if used as a fuel, and its green credentials can be enhanced even further if sustainable energy is used to power the production of ammonia.    Why does it matter to Yara?  Ammonia is the 2nd most-widely produced commodity chemical globally, with 20 million tons produced in the EU, mostly for #agriculture. 🇪🇺 That's why it's major step forward in enabling Yara to deliver on its strategic ambitions.

Major step of Yara International in North Sea Port! Yara invests almost 200 million euro in CCS in Sluiskil and has signed a binding CO2 transport and storage agreement with Northern Lights JV. This will be the world’s first cross-border CCS-agreement in operation. Steps like these are important for achieving the transition towards a sustainable industry. Additionally, several other CCS projects are under development within our Smart Delta Resources cluster. In the coming years, if all goes well, more announcements will follow this excellent example! Methanol Institute contributes to logistics industry decarbonization efforts!    👉🏽  On February 28th, our Chief EU Representative Matthías Ólafsson had the pleasure to take part in a Best Practice Session organized by the Smart Freight Centre to present the recent report of Methanol Institute on “Marine Methanol Future-Proof Shipping Fuel”.    🚢 🍃 About the Smart Freight Centre (SFC): As an international non-profit organization engaged in accelerating the reduction of logistics emissions to reach a zero-emission global logistics sector by 2050, the SFC aims to mobilize the global logistics ecosystem in tracking and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to achieve 1.5° pathways.      📈 Therefore, #methanol has a key role to play in the success of their mission.
