It’s #WorldScienceDay 👨🔬👩🔬! At KWS, around 1,900 people in R&D are working to develop innovative crop varieties that contribute to food security and require fewer resources thus meeting the challenges of the future. Fátima Montiel from Argentina is one of them: “Every decision a breeder makes has an impact on the future. We develop the seeds that farmers will use for years — or even decades — into the future”, Fátima says, “The goal provides as much a sense of meaning as it does a sense of responsibility: Produce seeds that feed the world.”🌱 Learn more about what drives our colleagues ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dqQShCMc #WorldScienceDay #seedingthefuture #futureoffood

The term "regenerative agriculture" has come into vogue in recent years, and I've used it many times in Local Food Forum. But there are many farmers who have invested much effort to obtaining and maintaining the USDA Organic label, believe organic practices are better for people and the planet, and — unlike regenerative — organic is clearly defined in federal law and regulation. A campaign launched by the Organic Farming Research Foundation, under the heading of "Organic is Regenerative," indicates that the community of organic advocates is pushing back. Did you know Patagonia created and funded a fake certifying body, Regenerative Organic Alliance, to greenwash Patagonia Provisions? The greenwashing isn't the worst part. They charge farmers for the certification. The illusion of the mythos of Patagonia's story allows the company to be morally corrupt, creating a fake extractive certifying body. Regenerative Organic Alliance runs at a loss even after the money that it charges farmers for accreditation. Regenerative Organic Alliance needs a (cash) grant injection yearly to support its overhead, likely Patagonia. This is the scam you pay for when you support companies like Patagonia. Support the farmers in your region. Don't trust corporations regardless of how green they pretend to be.
Cheers to this past year! Here are some Provisions highlights in 2023: Moonshot Snacks joined our team and we’re now making their delicious crackers. We launched our Spicy Mussels and Spicy White Anchovies. We transitioned 170 acres of organic wheat to Regenerative Organic Certified™, the world’s highest standard for agriculture. We couldn’t have done any of this without your support. And there’s much more in store for 2024. Pictured: The Patagonia Provisions Team, October 2023
