We can build resilience by championing the nutritious indigenous foods that thrive in our local climate and by collaborating as agrifood entrepreneurs to increase the well-being we create for our communities and our environment. Innovation is crucial for addressing food security challenges in Africa, according to a representative from the WTO. During the unveiling of Divasity's new CEO, Thokozile Nkechi James, and the launch of the Divasity-WTO Funding and Market Readiness Programme, Ambassador Matthew Wilson, the Permanent Representative of the United Nations and World Trade Organization, emphasized the crucial role of innovation in addressing food security challenges faced by developing countries. Wilson underscored the significance of supporting small businesses and entrepreneurship, particularly in the agribusiness sector, to tackle issues exacerbated by factors such as the pandemic, climate change, and geopolitics. The event, attended by industry leaders and stakeholders, showcased the commitment to empowering entrepreneurs with access to capital and global markets. Highlighting the potential for technological innovation in agriculture, the Divasity-WTO initiative aims to revolutionize the sector and drive positive change and economic empowerment for small-scale farmers in Nigeria. Founder Adeola Adebayo expressed optimism for the future, citing the leadership of Thokozile Nkechi and the program's potential to make significant strides in advancing entrepreneurship and agricultural development.

Welcome to the Corporate Council on Africa’s #Agribusiness Initiative! The Initiative seeks to highlight the agricultural sector and related industries in the US-Africa relationship. Recognizing the tremendous value for both American and African companies in building a shared supply chain, the Agribusiness Initiative is addressing the persistent disconnection between the African and American Agribusiness sectors by becoming the nexus for US-Africa agribusiness commerce. By focusing on information collection and publications, fostering transatlantic agribusiness deals and entrepreneurship, and industry advocacy, the Agribusiness Initiative will demystify the process for American companies to enter African markets and vice versa.

It was a wonderful and inspiring event, especially the African round-table with high ranking personalities indicating different views of the current situation about the latest developments and possible improvement for the agriculture industry in African countries, In our opinion - which was shared by several participants - a very important subject is the fact that too much food is spoil directly after the harvest because of insufficient and ineffective cooling systems. It does not really help to improve the productivity if 40% of the products are lost, spoiled or wasted. Therefore it makes sense to have a look at high-efficient cold chaine systems preferably with ZERO-CARBO Emission. One optimised concept - The Perfect Cold Chain - alone can save appr. 80.000 tons of food per year. Worthwhile to think about it !

I am persuaded that African young people are uniquely placed to spearhead #FoodSystems transformation. But we must build and create a shared understanding of what will be required of us. At the center of this renewed effort should be embracing #SystemsApproach especially in policy formulation and implementation. Let the voice of young people count during the design and implementation of public policy. However, this also means, as young people we must seek to understand the process and avenue through which we can contribute and share our thoughts and insights. #CAADP Post Malabo process is one that we must take advantage of. This continental process has been started to develop new framework to guide Africa development beyond 2025. The development of the post Malabo mechanisms within the #ClimateChange scenario has shifted focus from the previous narrow agricultural production improvement to focus on agri-food systems . Here I believe young people have a critical role. We must get involved. It is time to act .
