#j2co CONNECTING THE DISCONNECT BETWEEN SOIL AND HOST PLANTS When the disconnect between soil and the host plant is solved, primary and secondary plant metabolisms can be modulated to bring forward growth kinetics and increase resistance to infection for higher survival rates. Secondary metabolism occurs near stationary phase for plant growth. This is a very energy intensive procedure and for plants that are weak, this means it will spend every single energy in the cells before dying back, similar to how a human ages and expire. While we are only one step closer to unlocking the pandora box for secondary metabolism in C3 and C4 plants, we do know some in-plant metabolism can be brought forward and efficacy enhanced to deliver commercial impact, even under challenging supply conditions, such as tubers.
