During Session 6: Monitoring the Monitoring Trend, Tommy and fellow panelists delved into the evolving landscape of distributed fiber optic sensing, a field that's becoming increasingly vital in our industry. The session explored how the surge in fiber optic installations and the accessibility to low-frequency data are not just meeting original monitoring objectives but are paving the way for new methodologies and applications. With this evolution, questions arise: Is the focus of fiber optic monitoring shifting? How do we ensure that expanding discussions and methodologies enrich rather than dilute the value of subsurface monitoring? Today's panel tackled these questions head-on, discussing the balance between embracing innovative monitoring techniques and maintaining the integrity of traditional methods.
