With intentionality, urgency, collaborations, and ambition we can course correct to propel the necessary transitions and ensure the paradigm shift away from business as usual towards a more inclusive and sustainable world [and South Africa]. Reflecting on the work we have advanced in 2023 on the #SDGs and what we need to do better in 2024 #ForPeopleForPlanet:

My Mission for Africa: Embarking on a Transformative Journey In the heart of Africa lies a continent pulsating with untapped potential, waiting to be harnessed for the greater good of its people and the planet. As an agent of change, I embark on a mission fueled by a vision of sustainable development, propelled by the pillars of energy innovation, technological advancement, the nurturing of the built environment, celebration of diversity, and the pursuit of equality and inclusion. Central to this mission is the preservation of our natural resources, for they are the lifeblood of our existence and the cornerstone of our future prosperity. Energy Innovation: I envision a future where Africa leads the world in renewable energy solutions, harnessing the power of the sun, wind, and water to electrify communities, drive economic growth, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Through investment in clean energy infrastructure and innovative technologies, we can power the continent sustainably, without compromising the needs of future generations. Technological Advancement: Technology is the great equalizer, providing opportunities for education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. By fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, we can unleash the creative potential of Africa's youth and drive transformative change across industries. From artificial intelligence to blockchain, we must embrace emerging technologies as tools for progress and prosperity. The Built Environment: Our cities are the engines of growth and innovation, yet too often they are plagued by inadequate infrastructure, congestion, and pollution. Through sustainable urban planning and smart design, we can create livable, resilient cities that prioritize the well-being of their inhabitants while minimizing their environmental footprint. From green buildings to efficient transportation systems, we must build with the future in mind, creating spaces that nurture both people and planet. Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion: Africa is a tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions, each contributing to the rich mosaic of our continent. Embracing diversity is not only a source of strength but also a prerequisite for social cohesion and economic prosperity. By championing equality and inclusion in all spheres of life, we can unleash the full potential of Africa's diverse population and create a more just and harmonious society for all. As I embark on my mission for Africa, I am guided by a sense of purpose and possibility. I see a continent where sustainable development is not just a dream but a reality, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and fulfill their potential. Together, we can build a brighter future for Africa and the world, one that is rooted in sustainability, powered by innovation, and guided by the principles of equality and inclusion. I think this is also an excellent way to highlight the value of experience. You may start a career only able to handle 2-3 major tasks at a time, but as you grow…so does your capability. This shows why having senior employees with vast experience can absolutely be worth the investment depending upon where they were allowed to grow and who their mentors were.
