Dear friends and colleagues, I wanted to share a personal story of resilience with you. Just over two months ago, I lost my job due to the company headquarters closing down their Asia operations. It was a challenging time, as I had been with the organization for several years and had put a lot of effort and passion into my work. Losing my job felt like a blow to my credibility and my sense of purpose. However, I refused to let this setback define me. I took some time to reflect on my skills, interests, and values, and began exploring new opportunities. I modernised my resume, reached out to my network, and applied for numerous positions that aligned with my goals. I also took advantage of the spare time to take care of myself and attend to that long overdue medical issue. While recovering from my surgery I was able to push on with my search utilising the LinkedIn #OpenToWork function. Almost immediately I was thrilled to receive many offers of discussions that excited me, however, it all culminated down to my experience and my age against me as senior roles are hard to come by. This is where I had to reinvent myself and approach this challenge differently - by making passive conversations, discovering the client challenges and ultimately injecting the solution that only I have the experience to deliver. Looking back, I realize that losing my job was not the end of the world, but rather an opportunity to reassess my priorities and pursue new paths. It taught me the importance of adaptability, resilience, and continuous learning in today's fast-changing and highly competitive job market. I am grateful for the support of my family, friends, and colleagues during this transition, and for the chance to start a new chapter in my career. If you are going through a similar experience of job loss or career transition, remember that you are not alone. Reach out to me as well as your network, seek guidance and advice, and stay positive and persistent - make that conversation count! You never know what opportunities may arise from unexpected situations. Thank you for reading, and please feel free to share your own stories of resilience and growth in the comments below. Good luck, Yen

Thank you for sharing. While the experience of losing a job had been difficult and scary, you were actually just being reborn and reinvented. And where you emerged as an even better individual because you realized that you have lost nothing. That everything you have gone through is just to prepare you for an even bigger role and purpose. All the best in your new/future endeavors. I am sure the right door will open for you.

Well said, brother. Receive challenge. Identify opportunity. Having gone through redundancy followed by a successful career / industry transformation, many years ago, I couldn't agree more. You just captured it more eloquently than me :-) Good luck getting that next role: they will be lucky to have you.

Quoting the chinese proverb, "车到山前必有路,船到桥头自然直" Roughly translate to, when the cart reaches the mountain, you will find a road past it; when the boat reaches the bridge, it will align itself. Everything will be settled eventually. Stay strong!
