Throughout the previous academic year, I traveled all across the Midwest to meet with university leaders and address the troubling rise of antisemitism and Israel hatred on campuses. I emphasized the urgent need for them to take concrete actions to protect Jewish and pro-Israel students. This week, as the new academic year begins, I sent letters to the heads of leading universities in our region, urging them to ensure the safety and security of Jewish and pro-Israel students in the coming year. In my letters, I reiterated: "It is imperative that decisive and effective actions are taken to ensure their safety and that they receive the same security and support as every other student on campus. The First Amendment is a pillar of American democracy and of our shared values, but it does not protect harassment, intimidation, or violence." I hope that campuses will remain safe spaces where Jewish and pro-Israel students can focus on their education. Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest Elisha S. Breton, MA
